Senior Maintenance Mechanic

Job Title: Maintenance Mechanic

Summary: The Senior Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for performing complex repairs, installations, and maintenance across building systems, equipment, and grounds for the Rochester Housing Authority. This hands-on role spans a variety of skilled trades including electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, and masonry. This position also involves leading maintenance staff and assigning work orders to ensure efficient and safe operations.

Pay:

• $24.00 – $32.00/hour , depending on experience
  • Voluntary on-call availability is eligible for additional shift differential pay

Schedule:

• Day Shift: Monday - Friday
  • Voluntary on-call rotation available for additional compensation

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform advanced installation, troubleshooting, and repairs of mechanical, plumbing, HVAC, electrical, and building systems

• Supervise and assign tasks to Maintenance Mechanics, Helpers, and Laborers

• Lead by example and provide training in proper use of tools and procedures

• Read and interpret plans, specifications, and work orders to carry out assignments

• Operate and maintain hand tools, power equipment, and motor vehicles

• Prioritize and complete work orders for emergency, preventive, and general maintenance

• Work indoors and outdoors in varying conditions, including confined spaces and inclement weather

Minimum Qualifications:

• Three (3) years of full-time experience in skilled mechanical or construction trades OR Graduation from a technical high school program in a construction/mechanical trade plus two (2) years of relevant experience
• Must possess a valid Class D NYS Driver's License

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Proficient in multiple trades including plumbing, carpentry, electrical, HVAC, and groundskeeping

• Ability to supervise and train junior team members

• Skilled in reading blueprints and troubleshooting building systems

• Physically capable of lifting 50–110 lbs., standing for extended periods, and performing physically demanding tasks

• Willingness to work outdoors and respond to after-hours issues as needed

Preferred:

• Experience in public housing or multi-unit facility maintenance

• Familiarity with preventive maintenance tracking systems
