Connectivity Software Engineer - VP
Purpose of the role
To design, develop and improve software, utilising various engineering methodologies, that provides business, platform, and technology capabilities for our customers and colleagues.
Accountabilities
- Development and delivery of high-quality software solutions by using industry aligned programming languages, frameworks, and tools. Ensuring that code is scalable, maintainable, and optimized for performance.
- Cross-functional collaboration with product managers, designers, and other engineers to define software requirements, devise solution strategies, and ensure seamless integration and alignment with business objectives.
- Collaboration with peers, participate in code reviews, and promote a culture of code quality and knowledge sharing.
- Stay informed of industry technology trends and innovations and actively contribute to the organization's technology communities to foster a culture of technical excellence and growth.
- Adherence to secure coding practices to mitigate vulnerabilities, protect sensitive data, and ensure secure software solutions.
- Implementation of effective unit testing practices to ensure proper code design, readability, and reliability.

Embark on a transformative journey as a Connectivity Software Engineer - VP at Barclays. You will join a cross-asset engineering team responsible for developing Exchange Connectivity applications supporting multiple business areas. These applications are built on a distributed Java platform designed to deliver low-latency, high-throughput message processing. The role sits within a regionally distributed development team delivering both technical and business-driven solutions, with close collaboration across global teams including London and Prague.
To be successful as a Connectivity Software Engineer - VP, you should have experience with:
- Developing low-latency trading applications using Core Java and/or C++ in Linux environments
- Multithreading, memory management, caching, networking, distributed systems, and performance-oriented system design
- Financial systems supporting trading, risk, middle office, or related services, with exposure to client or market connectivity and order management preferred
- Mentoring and guiding junior engineers within a collaborative development environment
- Communicating effectively with technical and business stakeholders across region
Some other highly valued skills may include:
- Knowledge of financial messaging protocols such as FIX, OUCH, or Millennium
- Experience with network engineering or platform engineering concepts
- Familiarity with cloud platforms and container technologies
- Exposure to ML or AI tools within engineering environments

Minimum Salary: $170,000
Maximum Salary: $230,000
The minimum and maximum salary/rate information above includes only base salary or base hourly rate. It does not include any other type of compensation or benefits that may be available.
