Duties Description This position is responsible for performing a variety of routine unskilled and semiskilled manual tasks related to heating and/or air-conditioning, or in the mechanical equipment room. As a Facility Operations Assistant 1 (Utilities), the successful candidate will clean heating and utilities areas; clean and polish operating equipment; clean parts and equipment that are being overhauled; paint heating, ventilating and air-conditioning (HVAC) equipment and related areas; perform specific tasks as directed in performing maintenance and repairs on mechanical and electrical equipment, steam, gas and water lines, and other related plumbing, heating or ventilation equipment; lubricate machinery in the boiler, chiller, pump and mechanical equipment rooms according to schedule; participate in in-service training courses and on-the-job instruction in the fundamentals of utility plant operation and engineering; perform specific tasks in operating utility plant equipment including heating, ventilating and air-conditioning equipment to learn operating procedures; and may pick up and deliver parts as needed. The use of appropriate PPE, selecting and safely using the appropriate tools and equipment needed to complete the assigned tasks, and attending job related training will be required. Minimum Qualifications -Must be eligible for appointment to this title pursuant to civil service law-Ability to understand and carry out written and/or oral instructions-Physically able to perform the tasks of the position including, but not limited to, those in the Examples of Duties & Responsibilities-A demonstrated ability to work effectively and collegially with a variety of individuals-Valid driver's license and the ability to be LENS cleared to operate state vehicles

Additional Comments The Central Heating Plant maintains all heating, air conditioning, hot water, ventilation, and refrigeration services as well as overseeing the proper functioning of all elevators on campus. We also answer after hours calls and provide service, as needed, and are a 24/7 operation. We are part of the Administration & Finance division which provides essential services to our campus, local, state, federal and international customers. We are responsible for human, physical, financial and technical resources.
