Salary range: $64,296.00 - $109,438.00 The Department of Social Services (DSS) is comprised of the administrative units of the New York City Human Resources Administration (HRA) and the Department of Homeless Services (DHS). HRA is dedicated to fighting poverty and income inequality by providing New Yorkers in need with essential benefits such as Food Assistance and Emergency Rental Assistance. DHS is committed to preventing and addressing homelessness in New York City by employing a variety of innovative strategies to help families and individuals successfully exit shelter and return to self-sufficiency as quickly as possible. The Office of Procedures provides the critical link between policy development and worker execution of the agency programs. Up-to-date, well-written procedures, supported with effective training, provide workers with the knowledge and standards required to operate agency's program consistently and effectively. The Office of Policy, Procedures and Training (OPPT) is recruiting for one Graphic Artist II to function as Computer Graphic Designer. Under the direction of the Forms Unit Supervisor, with latitude for independent judgment and initiative, the Graphic Artist II designs and edits form, notices, letters, brochures, posters, flyers, and related materials using a high level of graphic skills and specialized graphic computer software. This individual liaises with MAP and Home Care offices to assure graphics in department materials meet the standards of the Agency and appropriately reflect intended objective.- Conceptualize original and complex graphic design and editing of MAP/Home Care documents including but not limited to forms, notices, brochures, posters, flyers, and other printed materials to reflect the Agency mission and objectives. Performs difficult layout planning and image selection assuring font selection and color schemes adhere to Agency standards for published materials.
- Schedule graphics projects and keeps track of production to ensure materials are produced as needed for timely publication according to department timetables for policy and procedure publication. Estimates production time necessary for each job and provides this information to the Forms Unit Supervisor.
- Serve as consultant to the Office of Policy, Procedure and Training directors, project managers, and procedure writers to plan and design the visual aspects of policy documents and incorporate graphics into policy documents in a manner that is appealing and understandable to staff and reflective of Agency mission and objectives.
- Collaborate with the Office of Communication and Marketing to communicate status of MAP/Home Care graphic projects and solicit information on Agency standards to assure adherence to Agency protocol and contribute expertise as needed.
- Advise MAP program and participates in meetings and special events working with all MAP/Home Care offices on an as needed basis as assigned by the Forms Unit Supervisor. Solicits feedback and suggestions from staff on how to improve the design, content, and information contained in graphic documents.
- Maintain expert knowledge in the use of various specialized technology and software provided by the Agency for graphic design. Research trends in graphic technology and stays informed of advances in desktop publishing and photo pre-setting to keep the Forms Unit Supervisor informed of current resources.
- May on occasion supervise a Computer Graphic Artist/Graphic Artist I.
(1) A baccalaureate degree, with a major in fine or graphic arts, from an accredited college and one year of full-time paid experience as a commercial or graphic artist; or (2) A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent plus two years of training in a technical school approved by a state's Department of Education or comparable governmental agency, in oils, water colors, painting, design, black and white, layout, computer graphics, and other art media, and three years of acceptable full-time paid experience as a commercial or graphic artist. To be qualified for assignment to Assignment Level II, individuals must have: (a) at least one year of experience as a Graphic Artist, Assignment Level I; or (b) the Qualification Requirements described in "1" or "2" above, plus two additional years of acceptable specialized paid experience conceptualizing and initiating graphic art projects.
Preferred Skills - Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite including but not limited to InfoPath, Forms, and SharePoint. - Knowledge of the Adobe Professional series of products. - Excellent communication and writing skills. - Familiarity with HRA systems such as eDocs preferred but not required. 55a Program This position is also open to qualified persons with a disability who are eligible for the 55-a Program.
