Safety Division - Field Safety Specialist
We are seeking a dedicated and proactive Field Safety Specialist to join our team. This position will play a crucial role in ensuring safety compliance and promoting a culture of safety across our field operations. This entry-level position requires a basic understanding of Safety principles and OSHA law, strong observational skills, influence, a willingness to train and educate employees, and the ability to respond effectively to safety concerns in various conditions. Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct field visits to observe crews and ensure adherence to applicable OSHA, ANSI, and industry standards.
- Monitor compliance with company policies and safe operating procedures.
- Support the Fleet Department with vehicle and equipment compliance, including Federal, State, and Local guidelines (e.g., registrations, inspections, rescue equipment).
- Train employees in company practices and maintain instructor certifications for:
- First Aid, CPR, AED
- Electrical Hazard Awareness Program (EHAP)
- Certified Flagger Course (optional)
- Powered Industrial Truck (PIT) Instructor
- Address safety concerns and resolve issues or questions from crews.
- Take direction from the Safety Director and Safety Superintendents, and collaborate with General Foremen, Superintendents, and Crew Foremen in the field.
- Immediately halt any actions that pose a danger to life or health (IDLH) and take corrective action for unsafe practices.
- Document field visits using company forms and procedures (both electronic and paper).
- A minimum of a high school diploma or a 2-year degree, with at least 3 years of experience in safety role.
- Strong interpersonal skills; relates well with many different personality types.
- High level of influence.
- Excellent communications skills
- Strong presentation skills; can present on a job-site AND in a classroom.
- Preferred experience in safety within the underground/overhead utility, environmental management, logistics, or construction industries.
- Completion of OSHA 30-hour training is required.
- Knowledge of industry-specific requirements, including:
- Utility work: OSHA 1910.269 and other utility standards
- Construction work: OSHA 1926 and related standards
- Familiarity with heavy equipment and aerial lifts is a plus.
- Work outdoors in all weather conditions and respond to weather-related incidents (storms).
- Able to drive to our job sites (in a company provided vehicle); this job will be visiting job sites 3 ½ to 4 days a week.
- Available for overnight travel based on workload (estimated 1 to 2 nights a week).
- Perform basic computer tasks including email and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Able to occasionally lift objects of up to 50 pounds.
- $60,000 - $80,000 based on experience
