Precision Tooling Machinist & Prototype Fabricator

About the Role

Imagine starting your day by reviewing a new fixture concept from engineering, choosing the right stock, and mapping out your setup. By mid-morning, youre dialing in offsets on a 3- or 4-axis VMC, holding tight tolerances with confidence. After lunch, you switch to the manual lathe to tweak a prototype detail, confirm dimensions with micrometers and ID/OD gauges, and wrap up with a quick 5S sweep so the next project moves even faster. Thats a typical day in this rolehands-on, precise, and varied.

What Youll Do

• Independently set up and run CNC mills/lathes and manual mills/lathes; operate drill presses, sanders, grinders, and related support equipment.
• Apply safe work practices at all times, including proper lockout/tagout procedures.
• Maintain a clean, well-organized work area through 5S and lean habits.
• Take on a wide range of jobsoften with limited directionusing sketches, blueprints, and verbal guidance to fabricate or modify parts and tooling to spec.
• Select appropriate materials, tooling, and workholding to prepare for efficient fabrication.
• Set up, adjust, and operate basic and advanced machine tool variations to manufacture or modify parts/tooling.
• Calculate dimensions and tolerances using shop math and precision metrology (micrometers, depth micrometers, inside/outside diameter gauges, etc.).
• Interpret prints to ensure features and tolerances are met; verify equipment is operating correctly throughout the run.
• Collaborate with engineering and production teams; recommend safer, more efficient, and more economical approaches to parts and tooling.
• Troubleshoot process or equipment issues; monitor gauges and indicators to ensure stable, accurate operation.
• Order raw materials through the ERP system; complete other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• 1 years of machining experience required; job shop and CNC background a plus. Formal training preferred.
• AAS in an engineering discipline preferred (not required).
• Strong initiative, solid work ethic, and hands-on, team-first mindset.
• Effective written and verbal communication; proficient math skills.
• Comfortable with MS Office and the computer skills needed to complete daily tasks.
• Skilled at reading blueprints/sketches and holding tight machining tolerances.
• Experienced with micrometers, depth micrometers, ID/OD gauges, and related metrology.
• Understands equipment and tooling technologies, speeds/feeds, and LOTO requirements.

Physical Requirements

• Close vision for part/tooling inspection and reading measurement instruments.
• Lift/pull/push up to 50 lbs during setup/teardown.
• Stand 810 hours per day; frequently bend and reach during setups and measurement verification.

• CNC Mill (34 axis VMC) (Bridgeport)
• CNC Lathe (24 axis)
• CAD/CAM; CNC tooling; manual machining.
