POSITION SUMMARY: (Essential Functions of Position) Under the direction of the Director of Communication and Education or designee, the incumbent will engage, train, and precept all newly hired direct support professional and community specialist (DSP) staff during the first ninety days of their employment within the framework of the Core Competencies. This will be accomplished through collaboration with the program management and clinical teams. The Onboarding and Training Coordinator will meet regularly with the newly oriented staff during the first three months of employment. All concerns will be directly communicated to the direct supervisor, Senior Director, and Managing Director. The Onboarding and Training Coordinator will support the program management teams to ensure compliance for DSP staff across programs with on-going required trainings and certifications, as well as developing and completing in-service trainings as needed. Recommends staff recognition activities and initiatives based on feedback solicited from newly hired DSP staff.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Education: Bachelors or Associates degree in Human Services, Human Resource Management, or related field preferred.

Minimum Experience: At least three years of experience in the field of Developmental Disabilities with at least one year experience in a training or leadership role.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills in order to interact effectively with coworkers, employees, individuals and outside contacts

  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
  • Must be able to maintain the strictest confidentiality
  • Proficiency in the use of a personal computer and appropriate software
  • Valid driver’s license and meet Agency’s driving standards

Working Conditions: Work involves regular exposure with individuals. Ability to physically assist and help lift individuals.

Physical Requirements: Occasional prolonged periods of walking or standing. Must have visual acuity adequate to read correspondence, computer screen, forms, etc.; manual dexterity; speaking and hearing ability sufficient to communicate by phone or in person at normal volumes.

POSITION TITLE: Onboarding and Training Coordinator

SPECIFIC JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

1.

In collaboration with program management acts as a preceptor to all newly hired DSP staff during their first ninety days of employment.

2.

In collaboration with program management and clinical staff, provides comprehensive on-site orientation and training to newly hired DSP staff within the framework of the Core Competencies, including completion and submission of the on-site orientation training checklist.

3.

Coordinates with subject matter experts to review with the new DSP all aspects of their job responsibilities/job description, including Staff Action Plan (SAP), Plan of Nursing Service, Behavior Support Plan, Medication Monitoring Plan, Communication Book, Transportation and all other job-related materials, purpose and expectations.

4.

Reviews with the new DSP all Agency policies and procedures relevant to their position during orientation. Coordinates scheduling with subject matter experts.

5.

Completes introductions of new DSP staff to other team members and key agency personnel. Acts as a support to new DSP staff in connecting them to resources within the Agency.

6.

Ensures newly hired DSP staff have the necessary technical assistance to access the software and hardware required to complete their job responsibilities.

7.

Provides direction, supervision, feedback, training to new DSP staff within the first ninety days of employment. Will meet with the newly oriented staff in-person at least once during the second and third month of employment.

8.

Completes observations of newly hired DSP staff within the first ninety days of employment and provides feedback and coaching with regard to performance of job responsibilities and understanding and implementation of the Core Competencies.

9.

Ensures that newly hired DSP staff complete all required trainings within the first ninety days of employment, including new employee orientation prior to working in their program; ensures that all training is documented, submitted to Training department to be uploaded into Relias.

10.

Acts as a resource and role model for staff across all areas of the organization.

11.

Plays an active role in organizational initiatives related to recruitment and training, including those such as international recruitment.

12.

Provides oversight to the Onboarding Liaisons’ workload and provide support coordinating H1B new hire processes, as applicable.

13.

Develops and delivers in-service trainings in areas of identified need, in collaboration with the Manger of Training and Staff Development.

14.

Provides support to the program management teams to ensure compliance for all DSP staff across programs with on-going required trainings and certifications and new trainings as necessary. Meets regularly with the Manager of Training and Staff Development. Reviews annual training status monthly.

15.

Recommends staff recognition activities and initiatives based on feedback solicited from newly hired DSP staff.

16.

Evaluates the on-site orientation training guide, process, and experience for new DSP staff on an on-going basis and is responsible to recommend and complete revisions as necessary.

17.

Maintains all required personal trainings; participates in external trainings, committees, and conferences to remain abreast of changes and innovations within the field. Accesses external resources, such as the Regional Centers for Workforce Transformation. Works in collaboration with Training Dept and Human Resources to obtain and disseminate new information and advice on best practices.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

1.

Attends and participates in candidate review discussions in collaboration with recruitment and program teams.

2.

Participates in committees as requested. May act as Chairperson of the Agency’s Spirit committee.

Performs other duties as requested.
