We are seeking fun, responsible, and caring Camp Counselors to join Aozora Summer Camp 2026.In this role, you will support the Lead Counselor in creating a fun and engaging Japanese cultural experience for campers. You will also collaborate with fellow counselors and administrators to ensure a safe, supportive, and secure environment where campers can enjoy a variety of activities.

Compensation:

• $17–$22 per hour, depending on experience
• $17 per hour for all mandatory training sessions, as required by NYS law

Camp Dates

• July 6 – August 21, 2026
• 35–40 hours per week for 2–7 weeks

Mandatory Training: All required training must be completed prior to the start of camp.

• Health & Safety Training: 2 hours
• Mandatory training (16–20 hours): July 1–2, 2026
• In-class Observation & Training: 6–10 hours (must be completed between May 04, 2026 and June 18, 2026)

In-class Observation & Training Availability

• Monday–Friday between 8:30 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., or
• Saturday between 9:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m

Requirements and Qualifications

• Must be 18 years of age or older
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Excellent communication skills in both Japanese and English
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment
• Previous experience as a counselor-in-training, teacher, childcare provider, or in a related field is preferred
• Ability to serve as a positive role model and mentor for children
• Must be available to work at least 2 weeks of the 7-week camp session
• Please note: A background check will be conducted
• Legal authorization to work in the United States

Responsibilities

• Ensure the safety and supervision of campers at all times
• Lead and assist with a variety of camp activities
• Maintain and organize camp materials and supplies
• Supervise campers during meals and snack times
• Guide campers through daily routines, including cleanup and transitions
• Follow all camp safety policies, emergency procedures, and guidelines
• Communicate clearly and effectively in a manner appropriate for children
• Provide restroom support to campers as needed
• Assist with serving nutritious snacks and lunches
• Perform basic administrative tasks (filing, record keeping, etc.) as needed
