Biology Teacher

The Cayuga-Onondaga BOCES is seeking a passionate and dedicated New York State (NYS) Certified Biology Teacher to join our team in the Compass Program. The Compass Program serves students who benefit from a highly structured, supportive, and therapeutic educational environment designed to meet academic, behavioral, and social-emotional needs.

The successful candidate will demonstrate strong instructional practices, the ability to build positive relationships with students, and a commitment to differentiated instruction.

This is a full-time, 10 month position and requires flexibility, strong organizational skills, and a passion for teaching Science. Dual certification in Biology and Earth Science is preferred, but not required.

Responsibilities:

• Develop and implement engaging, standards-aligned curriculum for students.
• Adapt instructional methods to meet diverse student needs.
• Maintain accurate records of student progress and communicate effectively with parents and guardians.
• Stay current with best practices in science education and integrate new strategies into lesson plans.
• Prepare students for the NYS Regents examination, including laboratory and fieldwork requirements.
• Develop and implement differentiated lesson plans to meet diverse learning needs.
• Collaborate with staff, teaching assistants, counselors, and related service providers.
• Implement classroom management strategies that promote positive student behavior and engagement.

Qualifications:

• Must hold, or be eligible for New York State Certification in Biology.
• Experience working with students in alternative education settings preferred.
• Knowledge of curriculum, laboratory requirements, and assessment practices.
• Strong classroom management and relationship-building skills.
• Experience with differentiated instruction and culturally responsive teaching practices preferred.
• Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
