Duties Description The Parks & Recreation Aide 1 (Park Naturalist) will work as part of the regional Interpretive Team to enhance visitor experience through providing safe and enjoyable recreational and interpretive opportunities in the state parks of Niagara and Erie Counties. This will be done through public and requested programs, trail informational assistance, special events in and out of state parks, and the daily operation of our seasonal interpretive facility at Niagara Falls State Park.Duties will include, but are not limited to, the following: - Assist with scheduled group and routine public programming including those conducted in and along the Niagara River and Gorge- Serve as Naturalist-at-Large and Roving Naturalist at major falls viewing areas around Niagara Falls State Park, former Schoellkopf Power Station site, and park trails.- Support regional Interpretive staff in planning projects to meet regional goals- Participate in outreach events including fairs, festivals, and expos- Provide support for education station design, creation, and programming

Additional Comments OPERATIONAL NEEDS: - Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license that allows the candidate to legally operate a motor vehicle in New York State as a term and condition of employment.- Must have strong organizational skills and be able to work with minimal supervision.- Must have the ability to perform light physical labor and lift up to 15 pounds. - Must have the ability to work in all weather conditions - Must have the ability to work on uneven and steep terrain.- Must be able to work a variable schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays.- Must occasionally travel to other parks within the region for training and operational needs.PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: - Degree or experience in environmental education, forestry, environmental studies, ecology, natural resources management, or related discipline BENEFITS:This position has the option to join the NYS Employee's Retirement System and is eligible for health insurance, dental and vision coverage.
