Senior Software Engineer - FrontEnd (Signup & Activation)
At Scribd Inc. (pronounced “scribbed”), our mission is to spark human curiosity. Join our team as we create a world of stories and knowledge, democratize the exchange of ideas and information, and empower collective expertise through our four products: Everand, Scribd, Slideshare, and Fable.
This posting reflects an approved, open position within the organization. We support a culture where our employees can be real and be bold; where we debate and commit as we embrace plot twists; and where every employee is empowered to take action as we prioritize the customer. When it comes to workplace structure, we believe in balancing individual flexibility and community connections. It’s through our flexible work benefit, Scribd Flex, that employees – in partnership with their manager – can choose the daily work-style that best suits their individual needs. A key tenet of Scribd Flex is our prioritization of intentional in-person moments to build collaboration, culture, and connection. For this reason, occasional in-person attendance is required for all Scribd Inc. employees, regardless of their location. So what are we looking for in new team members? Well, we hire for “GRIT”. The textbook definition of GRIT is demonstrating the intersection of passion and perseverance towards long term goals. At Scribd Inc., we are inspired by the potential that this can unlock, and ask each of our employees to pursue a GRIT-ty approach to their work. In a tactical sense, GRIT is also a handy acronym that outlines the standards we hold ourselves and each other to. Here’s what that means for you: we’re looking for someone who showcases the ability to set and achieve G oals, achieve R esults within their job responsibilities, contribute I nnovative ideas and solutions, and positively influence the broader T eam through collaboration and attitude. About Our Team The Signup & Activation team at Scribd is responsible for creating the critical first experiences that convert visitors into engaged users across our brands: Scribd, Everand, and SlideShare. We own the complete user journey from initial discovery through signup, onboarding, and early activation moments. As part of the Growth Engineering organization, our work centers on building high-converting, performant, and delightful web experiences that drive user acquisition and retention. We focus on experimentation-driven development, leveraging A/B testing, personalization, and data-informed design to continuously optimize conversion rates and user engagement. The team values collaboration, pragmatic problem-solving, and a culture of technical excellence. About The Role We are seeking a talented Senior Frontend Engineer to join our Signup & Activation team. In this role, you will design, build, and optimize the frontend experiences that power our user acquisition and activation funnels. You will also play a key role in shaping the team's technical direction and mentoring peers. Our cross-functional squad involves deep collaboration with other engineering teams, designers, and product managers, so confidence, accountability, and excellent communication skills are paramount. While your primary focus will be on the frontend, you'll work closely with backend engineers to build complete product experiences powered by data and personalization. What We’re Looking For- A passionate engineer who takes pride in writing clean, maintainable, and scalable code
- A collaborator who enjoys working across disciplines to develop high-leverage solutions that balance technical rigor with business needs
- A pragmatic problem-solver who can make smart trade-offs based on available data and experimentation results
- A leader with strong architectural judgment and a collaborative mindset, capable of influencing decisions and aligning the team
- Someone with a passion for growth engineering who understands how frontend experiences drive business metrics
- 6+ years of professional software development experience building and shipping customer-facing frontend applications
- Expert-level proficiency in modern TypeScript & JavaScript, especially React
- Solid experience with modern JavaScript frameworks (Next.js strongly preferred)
- Working knowledge of Ruby on Rails and its ecosystem - comfortable working in a Rails-backed product environment
- Strong grasp of modern frontend fundamentals: state management, component architecture, accessibility, testing, and UI quality
- Experience integrating frontends with APIs (REST, GraphQL a plus)
- Understanding of experimentation, A/B testing, and personalization systems
- Ability to build high-quality interactive experiences with attention to detail and UX polish
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills: as a remote company, we rely heavily on documentation and clear communication
- Proven ability to work in a codebase with shared patterns (monorepos, shared UI libraries, or platform constraints) and collaborate across teams
- Values craftsmanship, autonomy, and empathy while writing maintainable, thoughtful code and enabling others to succeed
- AI Fluency: Comfortable using AI tools (Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, etc.) to accelerate development, debug issues, and explore solutions
Nice to Have
- Have worked in a Growth Engineering team at a product-led company
- Proficiency in Ruby on Rails that enables you to contribute to backend features and optimize full-stack interactions
- Experience with backend technologies like Redis, Kafka, MySQL, and Terraform
