The Division of Extended Learning at SUNY Oswego offers programs and services to adult and non-traditional audiences to open gateways to new careers, enhance skills, or pursue lifelong learning. The Division of Extended Learning at the State University of New York at Oswego invites applications for a full-time Associate Director of Professional Development.

Posting Date: September 5, 2025

Compensation: $75,000-85,000 commensurate with experience plus full New York State benefits package.

Description of Responsibilities:

Position Overview: The Associate Director of Professional Development will lead the design, delivery, and management of non-credit programs and contract training within the Division of Extended Learning, with a special focus on developing microcredentials. This role requires collaboration with internal and external stakeholders to expand professional development offerings and foster community engagement. The ideal candidate will possess a blend of higher education experience, training, supervisory and leadership skills, and business acumen to meet the diverse training needs of the region.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development and execution of non-credit professional development programs, including the creation of microcredentials that align with industry standards and learner needs.

  • Build partnerships with community organizations, businesses, and higher education institutions to promote microcredentials and other non-credit programs.

  • Drive recruitment efforts for program participants and increase community engagement.

  • Implement and manage strategic marketing and communication initiatives to grow program enrollment and revenue, particularly for microcredential offerings.

  • Lead and oversee contract training programs, managing client relationships, ensuring quality delivery, and supervising the teams that support these initiatives.

  • Deliver presentations and represent the division at conferences, meetings, and community events.

  • Develop and manage program budgets to ensure fiscal responsibility and alignment with division goals.

  • Contribute to the strategic direction of the Division of Extended Learning, aligning programs and microcredentials with institutional and market-driven priorities.

  • Engage with instructors and facilitators, ensuring high-quality teaching and learning experiences across non-credit and microcredential programs.

Job Requirements:

Required Qualifications:

  • A master's degree in education, business administration, sales, marketing or other related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Five+ years of experience in higher education, professional development, non-credit training, contract training or a related field, including program development, management, and expansion.

  • Proven ability to develop, implement, and grow non-credit training programs, with demonstrated impact on workforce and economic development.

  • Demonstrated business acumen with expertise in sales, marketing, community engagement, and strategic partnership development.

  • Proven success in recruiting participants, building partnerships, and leading high-impact training initiatives.

  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to guide teams and programs to long-term success

  • Excellent presentation, communication, and interpersonal skills for engaging diverse audiences.

  • Teaching and curriculum development experience, preferably in higher education.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Expertise in strategic planning, budgeting, and program execution.

  • Experience leveraging data analysis to assess program impact and inform strategic decision-making.

  • Experience in developing and implementing microcredential programs in higher education.

  • Experience designing and managing scalable non-credit to credit pathways
