The SC Johnson College of Business Career Management Center prepares undergraduate and graduate students across our three schools for a competitive job market with advising, workshops, networking, and access to appropriate tools/resources.

The Career Management Center at the Cornell SC Johnson College of Business plays a pivotal role in helping students and alumni achieve their career goals by providing comprehensive resources, personalized support, and invaluable networking opportunities. This role supports the students at the Nolan School of Hotel Administration and the Dyson School of Applied Economics, which is currently ranked number 2 in Poets and Quants rankings. It also supports the students of the Johnson and Dyson Masters of Professional Studies students and some industry verticals of the Executive Masters of Business Administration candidates. Combined, the schools total nearly 2,000 students who excel in industries such as real estate, finance, consulting, technology, healthcare and data-driven roles.

The Assistant Director, Career Development for Undergraduate & Specialty Master's Programs Opportunity:

The SC Johnson College of Business Career Management Center prepares undergraduate and graduate students across our three schools for a competitive job market with advising, workshops, networking, and access to appropriate tools/resources.

The Assistant Director of Career Development for Undergraduate and Specialty Master's Programs within the SC Johnson College of Business will lead the delivery of a comprehensive career development model designed to prepare students for industry-specific career opportunities.

The delivery of this model requires effective collaboration with administrators, faculty, and students across multiple programs to ensure the achievement of program objectives. Beyond programmatic initiatives, the Assistant Director offers individualized career advising to undergraduate and specialty master's students and, in collaboration with fellow advisors, contributes to the professional development of the broader JCB student population

Using standards established by the National Undergraduate Business Symposium-a peer consortium of leading undergraduate business programs nationwide-and MBACSEA, the Assistant Director is responsible for tracking and documenting employment outcomes for the SC Johnson College of Business community. The Assistant Director will work both independently and collaboratively to support and ensure the successful achievement of post-graduation outcomes.

In collaboration with the Senior Associate Director of Career Development, the Assistant Director will monitor program success through the use of survey data and make improvements that support key performance indicators.

Required Qualifications

  • A bachelor's degree with two to four years of experience or equivalent combination of experience and education.
  • Experience in working directly with college level students, and familiarity with business school education, and industries/functions including real estate, consulting and finance.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues while fostering a high-quality, respectful work environment is required.
  • The successful candidate will show a proven capacity to monitor outcomes, deliver results, and identify opportunities for continuous program improvement.
  • Experience reflecting sound judgment, creativity, effective time management, and strong problem-solving skills, along with the ability to function productively within a team of professionals, is essential.
  • The role also requires the ability to work independently while contributing to and supporting broader team objectives.
  • Experience navigating and effectively utilizing software systems is required; current platforms include Handshake, Canvas, Qualtrics, Salesforce, and 12Twenty.
  • The position requires occasional evening and weekend work in support of program goals, as well as a willingness to travel at least twice annually.
  • Ability to advocate for individuals from a broad range of backgrounds.
  • Ability to cultivate and develop inclusive working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community members.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree/MBA career counseling, student affairs, higher ed administration, business administration, real estate or related degrees.
  • An advanced understanding of career choices for business majors, prior experience working with students and a proven track record of supporting student post-graduation outcomes.

This is a full-time position based in Ithaca, NY and will provide hybrid work flexibility .
