Sommelier
Join Our Team as a Sommelier at River Café
Nestled under the iconic Brooklyn Bridge, River Café is renowned for its exceptional dining experience and world-class wine program. We are looking for an enthusiastic and knowledgeable Sommelier to join our passionate team. This is a fantastic opportunity to work with a distinguished wine list and be mentored by Master Sommelier, Roger Dagorn, while immersing yourself in the vibrant New York dining scene.
Position: Sommelier
As a Sommelier at River Café, you will be responsible for delivering outstanding wine experiences to our guests, offering expert recommendations, and helping to maintain the integrity of our renowned wine program. We are looking for someone with a strong passion for wine, exceptional service skills, and the desire to work in a fast-paced, high-end restaurant environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide personalized wine recommendations and pairings for guests.
- Educate guests on the diverse selection of wines available, offering detailed insights and tasting notes.
- Maintain the wine cellar by overseeing inventory, organizing, and ensuring proper storage conditions.
- Stay informed on the latest wine trends, regions, and producers.
- Assist in training and mentoring junior staff on wine knowledge and service techniques.
- Attend regular wine tastings and events to expand knowledge and contribute to the wine program.
- Ensure the highest standards of service, adhering to all health and safety regulations.
Qualifications:
- 2-3 years of previous experience as a Sommelier
- Strong knowledge of wines, wine regions, and the wine-making process.
- Ability to lift cases of wine (up to 20 lbs) and manage inventory.
- Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Certification as a Sommelier (WSET 1 or higher, CMS Intro) is preferred
- A passion for customer service and a strong work ethic.
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
Compensation:
- Hourly rate, plus tips.
- Additional compensation for wine administration work.
- Full-time Sommeliers earn between $90,000 - $110,000 annually, based on experience and schedule.
