Position Overview
At Foundation Building Materials (FBM), the Forklift Operator plays a critical role in supporting warehouse and distribution operations through safe material handling, accurate order preparation, inventory organization, and exceptional customer service. This role is heavily focused on forklift operation and the safe movement of materials throughout the warehouse and yard environment.
The Forklift Operator is responsible for loading and unloading materials, operating forklifts and other warehouse equipment, maintaining organized inventory, and ensuring all work is performed in accordance with company safety standards and OSHA requirements. This position requires strong attention to detail, teamwork, and a commitment to maintaining a clean, safe, and efficient warehouse environment.
Responsibilities and Qualifications:Key Responsibilities
- Customer Service & Product Knowledge
- Provide service to customers entering the warehouse
- Maintain a high level of customer focus in producing quality products and services
- Maintain a full understanding of all products by identification, weight, and size
Warehouse Operations & Forklift Operation
- Safely operate forklifts and other material handling equipment to load, unload, move, stack, and stage materials throughout the warehouse and yard
- Receive, organize, and move incoming materials and load outgoing materials
- Load and unload trucks accurately and efficiently while verifying product quantities and condition
- Pull, stage, and prepare customer orders for delivery or pickup
- Allocate and move material to its correct place and always ensure an orderly warehouse
- Maintain packing specifications and make suitable skids/pallets as needed
- Conduct daily forklift inspections and report maintenance or safety concerns promptly
- Perform minor building maintenance when necessary
- Participate in monthly and/or annual physical inventories
Safety
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized warehouse environment
- Follow all safety protocols and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) requirements to maintain a safe working environment
- Operate forklifts and warehouse equipment in a safe and responsible manner at all times
- Use proper lifting techniques
- Wear appropriate personal protective equipment, safety shoes, and clothing
Training & Development
- Attend and participate in all required company training programs
- Maintain forklift certification and complete ongoing safety training as required
Miscellaneous
- Support company values in the areas of Safety, Customer Focus, Teamwork, Integrity, and being a Company of Choice for both employees and customers
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Building supply warehouse experience strongly preferred
- Prior forklift operating experience required; sit-down forklift experience preferred
- Valid forklift certification preferred or ability to become certified through company training
- Ability to safely operate material handling equipment including forklifts, pallet jacks, and other warehouse equipment
- High school diploma, general education degree (GED), or equivalent work experience and/or training
- Strong attention to safety procedures and warehouse organization
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining accuracy and customer service standards

Compensation
The listed pay range reflects the expected base rate for this position; actual compensation may vary based on factors such as experience, qualifications, and cost of living in the assigned market. This is a full-time position with competitive pay and benefits.
- Base: $18 - $21 per hour
