Executive Director
Executive Director, Hudson Valley Current
Kingston, NY | Salary: $75,000–$85,000
Start Date: February 1, 2026
Hudson Valley Current, Inc. is seeking a visionary and committed executive director to lead the region’s largest mutual credit local currency system, advancing local economic resilience and Main Street vitality. The Director will oversee all aspects of nonprofit management and represent HVC in the community, guiding the organization into its next phase of innovation and impact.
Hudson Valley Current is an economic development organization that keeps money local and strengthens local supply chains with its three primary projects: 1) The Current, a local currency that moves barter credits between 450 members; 2) Tilda’s Kitchen & Market, a community kitchen that highly features Current members; and 3) Kingston Lively, a quarterly magazine about food, art and exchange. After 12 years in operation, HVC is transitioning as the founding director steps down and empowers the new leadership team to expand the thriving organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage daily operations, staff, and core programs in support of Hudson Valley Current’s mission.
- Oversee fundraising, financial stewardship, grant writing, and resource allocation with clear budgetary discipline—ensuring that expenditures align with organizational income and supporting long-term financial health.
- Strengthen and expand the network of 450+ business and individual members, facilitating meaningful exchanges and local circulation of Currents.
- Work with the board to transition HVC’s primary revenue engines—Tilda’s Kitchen and Kingston Lively—to models that support the new director and the organization’s mission.
- Take ownership of HVC’s social media, developing and implementing a successful, strategic new direction for online engagement and outreach.
- Develop and nurture lasting partnerships with regional and global organizations, local governments, and community leaders.
- Serve as a visible, personable ambassador at community presentations, events, and public forums.
- Execute long-term visioning and strategic planning to ensure future growth and sustainability.
- Foster a culture of teamwork and ethical practice across all levels of the organization.
- Manage program development and evaluation; report to the Board and stakeholders with transparency and accuracy.
- Collaborate thoughtfully with the Board, seeking clarity around major organization-changing decisions and bringing experience to support effective, well-informed decision-making processes—especially in the first year of leadership transition.
Ideal Qualifications and Attributes
- Strong business acumen and nonprofit management experience.
- Exceptional communication skills, including public speaking, digital talent, and community engagement.
- Visionary, creative, and resourceful leader who can prioritize, plan, and execute effectively.
- Dependable, honest, ethical, thoughtful, and discreet; respected by peers and staff.
- Organized, flexible, energetic, and committed to inclusive teamwork.
- History of fiduciary responsibility and ability to use resources wisely.
