Event Manager, The Free Press

Paramount
New York, NY

TO APPLY FOR THIS ROLE PLEASE GO TO:

The Free Press is a rapidly growing global media organization founded by Bari Weiss and built on the principles that once defined distinguished American journalism—honesty, rigor, and independent thinking. Known for its investigative reporting and provocative commentary, The Free Press focuses on presenting the world as it is, combining the quality traditionally associated with legacy media with a fearless, modern approach.

Their work highlights overlooked ideas, challenges conventional narratives, and brings clarity to complex issues ranging from economic policy and financial markets to emerging technologies such as AI. The Free Press reaches a highly engaged audience of millions through its newsletters, podcasts and original video content.

As a fast-growing digital media company, The Free Press is committed to cultivating a vibrant community of readers and listeners who value independent perspectives and rigorous storytelling.

Overview and Responsibilities:

We’re looking for a sharp, detail-obsessed Events Manager to help us design and deliver unforgettable experiences for our subscribers. Reporting to the Head of Community & Events, you’ll be the operational backbone of our live programming—owning logistics, systems, vendor relationships, and post-event reporting.

This is a fast moving, mission-driven role. The right candidate is resourceful, thrives in startup culture, and believes ideas deserve a stage.

Candidates who include a brief cover letter sharing what they love about The Free Press—or what makes this community unique—will receive priority consideration.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Plan and execute events from start to finish, from venue and A/V to travel, seating, and run-of-show
  • Build and maintain solid vendor and venue relationships so The Free Press has a reliable bench for the future
  • Design thoughtful experiences for VIPs and sponsors—perks, signage, custom touches—while ensuring the event shines for every guest
  • Keep contact lists, vendor info, and event records organized and up to date in our CRM
  • Manage budgets, track expenses, and negotiate contracts
  • Produce post-event recap decks with photos, data, and lessons learned to improve programming and support sponsorships
  • Make real-time decisions on-site when plans change, keeping events running smoothly
  • Collaborate closely with editorial, partnerships, and marketing teams to ensure alignment and impact

Basic Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of event or project management experience (media, culture, or nonprofit preferred)
  • Willingness to travel (10–20%)
  • Availability for evening and weekend work during events
  • Demonstrated ability to run events end-to-end, from intimate salons to 1,000+ person gatherings

Additional Qualifications:

  • Skilled in project management tools (Asana, Airtable, or similar)
  • Comfortable with ticketing platforms and CRM systems
  • Strong negotiation skills and vendor management experience
  • Financial literacy: ability to manage budgets and weigh trade-o
  • You thrive in startup culture: fast-moving, resourceful, and unafraid of hard work
  • You’re mission-driven: ideally already a Free Presser, or deeply aligned with our values
  • You love systems and organization—keeping lists, updating CRMs, building processes—but you also know when to pivot
  • You’re cool under pressure and at ease in live-event unpredictability
  • You believe every detail matters—from the name card fonts to the guest experience
