Duties Description Become a trainer in all Division of Juvenile Justice and Opportunities for Youth (DJJOY) Juvenile Justice Basic Training modules and other topics as needed.Become an instructor in Crisis Prevention Management (CPM) and First Aid/CPR/AEDConduct training sessions, or portions thereof, focusing on developing or refreshing skills of direct care staff. Conduct documented instruction and remedial training as needed.Demonstrate skills including First Aid/CPR and self protection and physical restraint techniques. Participate in and provide coaching and support in simulation trainings.Coach facility staff in implementation and proper use of various skills and techniques.Work with supervisor and facility directors to develop and implement training specific to the individual program needs.Work with the Instructional Design and Development Unit to develop and update curriculum.Prepare lesson plans, instructional materials, and arrange classrooms.Maintain training records, coordinate training space, and confirm participation of co-trainers, presenters, and participants.Supervise Bureau of Training and Development staff. Additional duties will be discussed during interview.
Minimum Qualifications One year of permanent competitive or 55b/c service in this title or in a title eligible for 70.1 or 52.6 transfer.Open to the Public: This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS)A bachelor's degree and two years of experience in providing direct care services for individuals between the ages of 10 and 21 who are generally considered to be "juvenile delinquents," "youthful offenders," or youth residing in a residential setting which may include youth who are diagnosed with mental or developmental disabilities, mental illness, or addictions who could potentially become involved in the juvenile justice system.This position may be designated 55 b/c and is subject to verification of applicant eligibility.
Additional Comments 50% Travel will be required. Applicant will need a valid driver's license.Prior to assuming responsibilities, participation in various mandatory trainings held in Rensselaer, and other locations state wide is required.Background Investigation Requirements:1) All prospective employees will be investigated through a Criminal Background Check (CBC), which includes State and federal Criminal History Record Checks. All convictions must be reported; conviction of a felony or misdemeanor, or any falsified or omitted information on the prospective appointee's employment application, may bar appointment or result in removal after appointment. Each case will be determined on its own merits, consistent with the applicable provisions of State and federal laws, rules, and regulations. Prospective employees will be fingerprinted in order to obtain a record of their criminal history information, and may be required to pay any necessary fees. 2) All prospective employees will be screened against the Statewide Central Register of Child Abuse and Maltreatment (SCR). Prospective employees will be required to pay any necessary fees. 3) For Division of Juvenile Justice and Opportunities for Youth (DJJOY) prospective appointees will be checked against the Staff Exclusion List (SEL) maintained by the Justice Center for the Protection of People with Special Needs. Prospective employees whose names appear on the SEL as having been found responsible for serious or repeated acts of abuse or neglect will be barred from appointment and may have their names removed from the eligible list(s) for the title(s) if applicable.
