Position Overview 
The After-School Group Leader creates a safe, structured, and engaging environment for students during after-school programming and plays a critical role in upholding safety standards to maintain programing. This role plans and facilitates daily activities that support academic growth and social-emotional development, including homework assistance, recreational activities, arts and crafts, and other learning opportunities. Through mentorship, the Group Leader encourages confidence among participants while fostering a welcoming atmosphere, helping students build meaningful skills and relationships that contribute to their overall success. The After-School Group Leader contributes to overall program success, and responsibilities will evolve based on emerging needs, requiring a high degree of flexibility and adaptability. This role reports to the After-School Director.  

Key Responsibilities 

  • Lead daily group sessions that build community, reinforce expectations, and promote social–emotional growth.
  • Build strong relationships with students through regular check-ins and coaching conversations.
  • Apply restorative practices to address conflict and repair relationships.
  • Reinforce positive behavior through incentives, consistent expectations, and supportive feedback.
  • Greet students during arrival and follow up with students who are absent.
  • Facilitate enrichment clubs, academic support blocks, and community‑building activities.
  • Contribute to lesson and activity planning by offering ideas and preparing materials.
  • Assist with program-wide events, including showcases, family nights, and celebrations.
  • Meet regularly with the Program Director to discuss student needs, program updates, and emerging challenges.
  • Coordinate with school-day teachers and staff to align expectations and support individual students.
  • Share observations about student progress, behavior patterns, and areas requiring additional support.
  • Participate in staff meetings and trainings focused on youth development, SEL, and program quality.

Requirements 

  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • High school diploma with three (3) years of relevant professional experience or a degree in a related field with two (2) years of relevant experience
  • DOE Fingerprinted

Qualifications 

  • At least three years of experience working with or leading youth in educational, after-school, community-based, or recreational settings
  • Demonstrated ability to plan and facilitate implement structured programming
  • Programmatic strengths in arts, music, dance, STEM, crafts, sports, or other enrichment areas
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Exceptional level of patience and focus to overcome challenges and achieve results
  • Demonstrates reliability, flexibility, and professionalism
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish preferred)
