In 2023, Laydon built out its Gas and Utility Division which comprises of Complex Construction and Gas Leak Survey services. Job Summary

Gas Worker is responsible for the installation of district regulator stations, telemetering stations, inlet main and outlet main piping, sensing lines, atmospheric vent lines, electrical conduit, telemetering cabinets and associated equipment. Ensure safe practices at all times, assists in a variety of natural gas operations duties, takes direction from the Foreman, and achieves objectives as directed by the Gas Division Supervisor/Crew Leader.

Responsibilities

• Assists in Regulator station installation and retrofits with knowledge of pipe fitting and tube bending.
• Operates pneumatic paving breakers, jackhammers, tampers, and other tools.
• Drives truck as required.
• Helps keep trucks and other equipment clean and orderly.
• Upon completion of training, operate backhoe and other earth moving equipment in conjunction with Company operations. Perform fueling, oiling, and greasing of earth moving equipment.
• Utilizes pipe fusion equipment and gas leak detection equipment.
• Locates subsurface natural gas facilities.
• Performs other related work as required.
• Performs the above in accordance with safety practices of the company.
• Wears personal protective equipment (PPE) on the job and ensures that crews members are also wearing safety gear.
• Role may involve handling hazardous waste. Training will be provided by the Company to meet requirements of 40 CFR 265.16, OSHA 10, EWN & NGA OQ’s.

Qualifications, Skills & Education

• Graduate of high school, trade school, or equivalent.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license.
• Ability to work in/travel to New York is required
• Excellent written and verbal communication.
• Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
• Ability to read and understand piping and instrument diagrams.
• Must demonstrate mechanic aptitude and sufficient amount of strength and agility to perform all duties of the classification.
• Must show aptitude in the safe and proper operation of equipment and willingness to learn to operate this equipment.
• Fluent in English.
• Ability to work in a high-pressured environment.
• Team player.
• Strong attention to detail.
• Safety-oriented.
• Proficient in problem solving.

This is a safety sensitive position and requires employee to be subject to random drug and alcohol testing.
