LOCATION: 3175 Lake Shore Rd. Buffalo NY, 14219 (On-Site).
COMPENSATION: $70-80,000/per annum, based on knowledge and experience.
JOB TYPE: Full-time, exempt.
HOURS: Monday-Friday, 40+ hour work week is required.

Metalico Buffalo, Inc. is seeking a motivated and knowledgeable EHS Administrator to support our Buffalo Division, including multiple metal recycling and auto parts operations. This is a high-impact role for a safety-focused professional who thrives in industrial environments and wants to develop their career within a respected, established company.

PURPOSE:
As the Buffalo Division EHS Administrator, you will be the go-to resource for safety leadership and environmental compliance across several active operations. You will help shape a proactive safety culture, guide facility teams, conduct audits and inspections, and partner with corporate leadership to ensure our sites meet or exceed regulatory requirements.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
The EHS Administrator will support the EHS programs across the Buffalo Divisions, which includes Metalico Buffalo, Metalico Niagara, Skyway Auto Parts, 49 Hopkins Auto Parts, and Buffalo Shredding & Recovery.

Key responsibilities include:

Environmental & Safety Oversight:
  • Support Buffalo Division managers in maintaining compliance with OSHA, EPA, NYSDEC, and corporate EHS standards.
  • Conduct weekly site inspections to identify hazards, unsafe practices, or environmental concerns, and recommend corrective actions.
  • Perform quarterly EHS audits at each assigned facility, documenting findings and tracking corrective actions.


Reporting & Documentation:

  • Prepare and submit monthly and quarterly EHS reports as required by corporate EHS and regulatory agencies.
  • Maintain EHS records, permits, and documentation to ensure compliance with legal and corporate requirements.


Training & Employee Engagement:

  • Conduct new-hire EHS orientation and refresher training.
  • Facilitate and lead monthly EHS meetings with site management teams and employees.
  • Promote a proactive, positive safety culture across all sites.


Incident Response:

  • Assist in the investigation of incidents and near-misses, document findings, root causes, and corrective measures.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for regulatory inspections or inquiries from state, local, or federal agencies.


Additional Projects:

  • Support implementation of corporate EHS policies, procedures, and initiatives at the divisional level.
  • May be assigned additional EHS-related projects or responsibilities as directed by management.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum 3–5 years of EHS experience in an industrial or scrap/recycling environment preferred.
  • Knowledge of OSHA, EPA, NYSDEC, and other applicable environmental and safety regulations.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to conduct effective training and present material to groups.
  • Organizational, documentation, and record-keeping skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with employees at all levels.
  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • Ability to manage multiple sites and travel between facilities within the Buffalo division.
  • Continuing education (regulatory, safety, and environmental training) strongly encouraged.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Regularly required to walk facilities and perform inspections in both office and industrial environments.
  • Must be able to stand, walk, and climb in scrap/recycling yard settings.
  • Occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to sit at a desk and operate a computer for extended periods.

WORK ENVIRONMENTAL:

  • Work is performed both in an office environment and in industrial scrap/recycling yards.
  • Exposure to noise, dust, weather conditions, and heavy equipment during site visits.
  • Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
