Budget Title: Instructional Support Assistant (SL-1)
Salary: $45,372 - $55,372 (full-time, temporary for one year)
The Digital Accessibility Assistant will support faculty, staff, and students in making Library digital content accessible to ensure compliance with ADA Title II and WCAG 2.2 AA guidelines. This role involves reviewing, remediating, and improving accessibility for various digital materials, primarily PDF documents.
The position reports to the Director of Library Technology Services.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist with auditing and remediating digital content (PDFs, Word documents, videos, and other content) for accessibility
- Remediate digital materials in library-managed repositories to meet WCAG 2.2 AA standards and university accessibility policies
- Remediate complex Document Delivery, Interlibrary Loan, and Course Reserve materials as needed
- Assist the Web Designer on Web Accessibility compliance
- Maintain accurate records of completed work and assist with tracking compliance efforts
- Participate in professional development sessions as directed to stay up to date on accessibility tools, guidelines, and best practices
- Assist Acquisitions and Contracts staff with VPAT, HECVAT, and e-resource platform review projects
- Review existing licensed content for accessibility compliance
- Identify gaps and inefficiencies and recommend improvements to enhance accessibility practices
- Participate in a work culture that promotes diversity and anti-racism and actively works to eliminate or mitigate the effects of systemic racism and bias
- Participate in Library and University committees
Job Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree
- Experience with Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite software
- Strong attention to detail and ability to identify accessibility issues in digital content
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to support faculty, staff, and students
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks effectively
Preferred:
- Familiarity with assistive technologies such as screen readers (e.g., JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver)
- Prior experience working with digital accessibility or universal design principles
- Knowledge of WCAG 2.2 AA standards and ADA Title II compliance
- Experience with one or more of the following: document accessibility, PDF remediation, screen readers, HTML
