Hardware Developer (H266)
Hardware Developer, IBM Corporation, Hopewell Junction, NY: Perform Volatile Organic Compound (VOC) extraction and analysis using designated equipment. Operate specialized Gas Chromatography Mass Spectroscopy equipment to measure Organic compounds. Interpret results of Gas Chromatography Mass Spectrometry and present findings. Identify potentially toxic chemicals, banned chemicals, or any other chemical of regulatory concern using VOC methodologies. Consider safety thresholds of potentially toxic chemicals according to OSHA or other relevant standards. Provide recommendations to various company teams for materials substitution to ensure regulatory compliance, and good environmental stewardship. Work with all of the companys product developer teams in materials selection of product builds to ensure timely testing and regulatory notification of VOC compounds found. Develop improvements to VOC methodologies. Design smaller chambers for component testing for faster equivalency reporting. Conduct in-house formaldehyde testing to eliminate the need for third-party outsourcing. Maintain safety requirements. Maintain national certification. Explore expanding capabilities as a certified VOC tester to provide testing for third parties. Utilize: X-Ray Diffractometer, X-Ray Reflectometer, X-Ray Fluorometer, Gas Chromatography Mass Spectrometer, Vacuum Chamber. Required: Masters degree or equivalent in Materials Science, Physics, Mechanical Engineering, Chemistry or related (employer will accept a Bachelor's degree plus five (5) years of progressive experience in lieu of a Masters degree) and one (1) year of experience as a Staff Engineer or related. One (1) year of experience must include utilizing X-Ray Diffractometer, X-Ray Reflectometer, X-Ray Fluorometer, Gas Chromatography Mass Spectrometer, Vacuum Chamber. $144061 - $180000 per year.
