Unit Supervisor
Heartshare St. Vincent's Services (HSVS) Specialized Family Foster Care (SFFC) program is currently seeking a Unit Supervisor to join our team. The SFFC program serves over 60 children with medical fragility and developmental disabilities, providing compassionate, and specialized care. As a Unit Supervisor, you will lead a team of four Case Planners & working closely with medical case management team, which consist of Child Advocate (Nurse), Medical Administrative Support staff, and external partners to coordinate exemplary care. The Unit Supervisor will be crucial in ensuring that every child on the caseload is placed in a nurturing, safe, and permanent family environment as quickly as possible. This role reports directly to the Foster Care Director and offers a unique chance to make a significant difference in the lives of vulnerable children.
Primary Responsibilities and Essential Functions of Position:
Provides coaching and support to staff to reinforce quality case practice with the future use of an evidence-based model.
Provides formal and informal supportive, programmatic and clinical supervision to each team member; holds formal individual supervision weekly and team meetings on a monthly basis.
Responsible for completing and submitting staff evaluations; resolve and address staff issues; participate in hiring, disciplinary actions.
Holds staff accountable for strong performance.
Ensures appropriate record-keeping including supervisory records
Responds to case emergencies (after hours when necessary).
Must have excellent customer service skills.
Must be able to collaborate across programs.
Ensure the safety and well-being of children.
When necessary, conduct home visits, school visits, and attend court hearings.
Participate in on-call rotation for after-hours emergencies to ensure 24/7 emergency coverage for families.
Review all Progress Notes, Court Reports, correspondence and other documentation, ensuring quality and timely submission.
Responsible for ensuring the timely and accurate submission of all forms and documents required by ACS and NYF. Ensures adherence to all city and state mandates, including documentation of necessary contacts by caseworkers.
- Master's degree in social work (MSW/LMSW) or related field required .
Experience in child welfare/case management strongly preferred .
Minimum of two to five years of supervisory and/or managerial experience in a relevant field required.
Familiarity with Administration for Children Services (ACS), Office of Children Family Services (OCFS), Department of Youth & Community Development ( DYCD ), and other relevant municipal and state agencies preferred .
Must maintain a broad knowledge of basic principles, concepts, and methodology of social work as acquired through professional experience.
- Willingness to travel within the 5 boroughs of NYC, Long Island and Westchester.
Knowledge of MS Office and CONNECTION preferred.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to work under stress or in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to work independently and exercise a high level of confidentiality
Ability to teach, train, and coach team members.
Be flexible to work some evenings to support staff need
Driver’s license is preferred (Note: selected candidates will be required to complete a safety training course prior to use of an agency vehicle. As candidates will not use personal vehicles for organization-related driving.)
