Job Title: General Maintenance Technician
Location: Melville, NY 11747
Work Schedule: 1st Shift | Monday-Friday | 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM
Pay Rate: $25.00 – $27.00/hour

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced General Maintenance Technician III – Dock Doors to join our Operations & Maintenance team in Melville, NY . This position is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and performing preventive maintenance on overhead doors, loading dock equipment, gates, and related mechanical systems in an industrial or commercial facility.

The ideal candidate will have strong mechanical troubleshooting skills, experience using hand and power tools, and a commitment to safety, preventive maintenance, and customer service.

Minimum Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum 5 years of maintenance experience in one or more of the following:
• • Industrial HVAC
  • Industrial Mechanical Maintenance
  • Machine Repair
  • Automotive Repair
• Ability to troubleshoot and repair mechanical equipment.
• Ability to work from aerial lifts or scissor lifts up to 30 feet or higher .
• Willingness to work overtime, weekends, holidays, and alternate schedules as required.
• Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office.

Key Responsibilities

Dock Equipment & Door Maintenance

• Inspect, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain:
• • Overhead doors
  • Roll-up doors
  • Loading dock levelers
  • Dock plates
  • Dock restraints
  • Gates and gate arms
• Replace and repair mechanical components including:
• • Motors
  • Bearings
  • Sheaves
  • Shafts
  • Related mechanical hardware
• Perform repairs to restore equipment to safe operating condition.

Preventive Maintenance

• Perform scheduled preventive maintenance using a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) .
• Complete maintenance activities including:
• • Lubrication
  • Cleaning
  • Filter replacements
  • Mechanical adjustments
  • Equipment inspections
• Ensure all maintenance tasks are completed accurately and on schedule.

Troubleshooting & Repairs

• Diagnose equipment failures and determine appropriate corrective actions.
• Analyze mechanical issues and recommend improvements to maintenance methods and equipment performance.
• Assist team members in resolving maintenance-related problems.
• Maintain equipment reliability while minimizing downtime.

Safety & Compliance

• Follow all company safety policies and OSHA regulations.
• Perform work in accordance with:
• • Lockout/Tagout (LOTO)
  • Job Hazard Analysis (JHA)
  • PPE requirements
• Identify and report safety hazards or non-compliance issues.
• Ensure all repairs comply with applicable codes, regulations, and industry standards.

Customer Service & Documentation

• Respond promptly to maintenance work orders and service requests.
• Communicate repair status and maintenance updates to customers.
• Maintain accurate maintenance documentation using CMMS.
• Ensure corrective actions are completed for identified deficiencies.

• Safely operate:

  • Maintenance equipment
• Maintain tools and equipment in safe working condition.

Team Collaboration

• Work effectively with supervisors, maintenance personnel, and customers.
• Demonstrate flexibility to meet changing operational priorities.
• Maintain productivity while working independently or as part of a team.
• Perform additional duties assigned by management.
