Senior Industrial Designer

We are searching for a Senior (or strong staff 2) level designer to join our team in Brooklyn!

Industrial Designers at Smart are very hands-on. They participate in user research, make stuff, work with engineers, create prototypes, and test their concepts with real users with the ultimate goal of helping improve the way people live and work.

We work across categories, and some projects may be focused on high-level concepts, but many go into production. Be prepared to evaluate the feasibility of design concepts, manufacturability, and client cost/price objectives.

We’re especially fond of quick thinkers, problem solvers and good communicators with a well-developed sense of form, proportion, color and materials.

Naturally, you have:

- 5-7 years of experience as an industrial designer
- Incredible 2D skills like hand sketching, Illustrator and Photoshop rendering
- Equally incredible 3D CAD skills in SolidWorks
- DFM experience having brought at least 1 product to market
- Comfortable with making quick foam models and rough prototypes
- An incurable curiosity relating to all things design
- Passion for conceptualizing and designing meaningful product solutions for people in their homes (housewares industry experience a plus)
- No fear of teamwork, brainstorming sessions or presenting in front of your team
- Proactive communication skills, making you a responsive team player
- Ability to confidently present your design to clients and answer any questions

The role is based in Brooklyn and will need to be local. We work on a hybrid model, and Smarties must be in person Tuesdays through Thursdays each week with some additional onsite time as needed.

Salary range will be dependent on candidate level and experience, and average range may fall between $95-120k base salary plus bonus and benefits eligible.
