This role within Mechanical Engineering is responsible for developing and implementing designs for mechanical and electro-mechanical sub-systems used in medical devices. The candidate will drive simple designs but will need support from technical leads for more complex parts and assemblies. Responsibilities will also include pre/post processing of additive manufactured (AM) parts, managing raw material inventories and assisting the engineering staff to apply best practices for AM. This role will drive and complete design activities in all areas of engineering including CAD, drawing, prototyping and testing. The role will work cross functionally to drive designs into production.

Responsibilities

• Provide conceptualized design solutions for mechanical and electro-mechanical sub-systems with oversight from subject matter experts
• Completes detailed engineering analysis of new and existing designs to verify robustness and design intent with little oversight from subject matter experts
• Produce detailed drawings utilizing GD&T and engineering best practices
• Drive engineering changes through the Siemens design change process (CRB).
• Leads and completes complex root cause analysis investigations
• Prepare prototypes for testing and provide technical assistance on design feasibility
• Work with Suppliers to address technical issues with designs
• Work closely with manufacturing and field service in the development of designs
• Conduct prototype testing and laboratory best practices
• Completes drafting and design reviews with a cross functional team
• Perform all verification activities and document results for knowledge transfer
• Embraces simulation culture in all work activities, possibly conducting the work themselves
• Ability to plan and forecast work in and outside of cross functional team.
• Developing subject matter expertise in a particular area or sub-assembly
• Develop/Execute an AM strategy for the business unit and oversee part verification.
• Maintain AM fabrication tracking system and track engineering parts for outsourcing
• Conduct large 3D prints and maintain preventive maintenance on large format printers.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (master’s degree a plus)
• 5-8 years of industry experience in product design, development.
• Proficient at using 3D CAD software (preferably NX) to develop designs utilizing proper design intent.
• Strong GD&T skills and ability to perform tolerance stack-ups on complex assemblies.
• Proficiency with ASME Y14.5 standards
• 2-5 years working in an FDA-regulated environment a plus
• Experience with facilitating or participating in FMEA and DFMA activities
• Experience with additive manufacturing processes and printers

• Experience working with suppliers of sheet metal, machined, and molded mechanical parts to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues
• Support and/or drive troubleshooting and root cause investigations for issues found identified
• Must have proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.…)
• Familiar with Scrum agile system (ADS) a plus
• Strong written and oral communication skills
• Travel 5-10%

The base pay range for this position is:

Min $107,060 - Max $160,580

Factors which may affect starting pay within this range may include geography/market, skills, education, experience, and other qualifications of the successful candidate.

If this is a commission eligible position the commission eligibility will be in accordance with the terms of the Company's plan. Commissions are based on individual performance and/or company performance.
