General Manager

El Camino is currently seeking a General Manager to join our team. We are a casual neighborhood bar and restaurant in New York’s East Village - taking inspiration from the bars and cafes of Coastal Spain, France and Italy.

Job Summary:

We are looking for a dynamic hospitality professional responsible for daily restaurant operations, maintaining DOH compliance, and building/supporting both front of house and back of house teams.

Job Duties & Responsibilities:

• Work with Managing Partners to build and execute operational strategies.
• Oversee day to day restaurant operations.
• Manage hourly employees in their daily responsibilities, providing clear and effective direction.
• Ensure DOH compliance and address all DOH violations immediately.
• Ensure that all drink and food recipes/procedures are followed, and that presentation is consistent.
• Build and maintain FOH staff training program, and coordinate BOH training with our chef.
• Resolve team member and customer conflicts as they arise.
• Execute all ordering for bar/kitchen and manage COGs/inventory.
• Recruit, hire and train hourly team members.
• Conduct weekly manager meetings and financial reviews with Managing Partners.
• Lead team meetings and maintain staff meeting schedules.

Qualifications:

• Ability to read, speak, understand, and follow written directions and verbal instructions in English. Proficiency in Spanish is a plus.
• In depth knowledge of wines, beers, cocktails and their preparation.
• Fundamental knowledge of kitchen operations.
• Knowledge of workplace safety procedures and local Department of Health standards.
• Food Handler’s Certification or the ability to obtain within 2 weeks of start date.
• Availability to work late nights, weekends and holidays
• Familiarity with operational software such as Toast, Slack, and Google Workspace.
• Working understanding of human resource principles, practices, and procedures.
• Ability to effectively train others.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
• Certification for responsible alcohol service or ability to obtain within 3 months of start date.
