FIT NYC Nurse Practitioner
- Provide direct primary care to students and employees through scheduled clinical visits, telephone consultations, laboratory follow-up, and triage of walk-in patients.
- Obtain comprehensive health histories and perform problem-specific physical examinations based on the patient's reason for visit.
- Assess, diagnose, and manage common acute and chronic health conditions in accordance with approved clinical guidelines and established standards of practice.
- Order and interpret diagnostic tests and use assessment findings to develop appropriate diagnoses and treatment plans.
- Prescribe medications and other appropriate treatments, including nutrition, exercise, traditional nursing interventions, and other wellness and illness-management modalities.
- Evaluate and document patient responses to treatment plans and modify care as clinically appropriate.
- Provide preventive care, health promotion, disease prevention, and wellness services.
- Collaborate with physicians, psychiatrists, counselors, nurses, and other healthcare providers to coordinate comprehensive patient care.
- Make referrals to other disciplines and healthcare providers when indicated by patient assessment and clinical needs.
- Conduct laboratory and diagnostic follow-up and coordinate appropriate next steps in patient care.
- Serve as a clinical resource to healthcare providers and non-medically trained staff.
- Support continuity of care and appropriate management of patients with varying and complex healthcare needs.
- Participate in the development, review, and revision of Nurse Practitioner practice guidelines and procedures.
- Audit peer practice and contribute to quality assurance activities to support the delivery of high-quality patient care.
- Support continuous quality improvement initiatives and incorporate quality assurance findings into clinical practice.
- Maintain accurate, timely, confidential, and compliant clinical documentation in accordance with applicable healthcare requirements and institutional standards.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and demonstrate sensitivity to patient age, gender, and individual healthcare needs.
- Maintain professional, ethical, and clinical standards in all patient and workplace interactions.
- Advise and provide clinical guidance to healthcare providers and non-medically trained staff on matters within the scope of professional practice.
- Assist with interviewing and mentoring newly hired Nurse Practitioners.
- Supervise, mentor, or provide guidance to clinical staff or trainees as needed.
- Contribute to health professions education and clinical instruction activities, as applicable.
- Communicate effectively with students, employees, healthcare providers, and interdisciplinary teams regarding patient care and clinical matters.
- Provide patient education, counseling, and health coaching to promote informed decision-making and healthy behaviors.
- Develop and evaluate professional goals and participate in activities that support ongoing professional growth and clinical competency.
- Maintain awareness of changing clinical priorities and institutional needs and adapt practice accordingly.
- Master's degree in Nursing.
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license.
- Current Nurse Practitioner license/authorization to practice.
- 1-3 years of professional experience as a Nurse Practitioner or in a related clinical setting.
- Ability to independently provide clinical assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and patient management within established guidelines and scope of practice.
- Board certification as a Nurse Practitioner.
- Current CPR/AED certification.
- Experience providing healthcare services in a college or university health setting.
- Experience in ambulatory care.
- Experience with health professions education and/or clinical instruction.
- Knowledge of adult primary care, including assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and management of acute and chronic health conditions.
- Knowledge of evidence-based clinical practices, preventive care, health promotion, and disease prevention.
- Knowledge of pharmacology, prescribing practices, and medication safety.
- Knowledge of behavioral health principles and interdisciplinary approaches to patient care.
- Knowledge of healthcare regulations, HIPAA, clinical documentation, risk management, and quality assurance.
- Knowledge of electronic health record (EHR) systems and clinical documentation standards.
- Strong clinical assessment, diagnostic, and clinical decision-making skills.
- Skill in developing, implementing, and evaluating individualized treatment and care plans.
- Strong patient communication, education, counseling, and health coaching skills.
- Skill in collaborating effectively with physicians, nurses, counselors, psychiatrists, and other healthcare professionals.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills to manage clinical workload, patient follow-up, and documentation.
- Skill in providing clinical guidance, mentoring, and support to healthcare staff and trainees.
- Ability to practice independently within established clinical guidelines and scope of practice.
- Ability to manage a diverse patient population with acute, chronic, preventive, and wellness needs.
- Ability to respond effectively and appropriately to urgent or changing clinical situations.
- Ability to prioritize multiple clinical responsibilities while maintaining quality, safety, and patient-centered care.
- Ability to communicate effectively and establish productive working relationships with patients, healthcare providers, and staff.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality, professionalism, ethical standards, and adaptability while contributing to quality improvement initiatives.
