WIC Program Assistant

POSITION OVERVIEW: Reporting to the WIC Coordinator, the WIC Program Assistant is tasked with managing the front desk area, conducting program orientations, gathering information, making referrals, and ensuring compliance with State WIC Policy and Procedures. The WIC Program Assistant will also serve as the National Voter Registration Act Coordinator. Pays:44,500 per year KEY ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: - General reception duties such as answering phones, scheduling appointments, following-up on missed appointments, and greeting participants.
- Review Rights and Responsibilities with participants.
- Conduct program orientation, including explaining program benefits, issuing e -WIC card, setting up WIC2GO and providing list of authorized vendors.
- Collect information for the certification process including verifying identity, income and residency.
- Provide referrals to health and social services, and document in participant's record.
- Complete issuance of food packages that do not require medical documentation, once prescribed by the CPA or QN
- Provide additional program information on such topics as WIC benefits and the Farmers' Market Nutrition Program
- Issue Farmers' Market benefits to participants
- Serve as the backup National Voter Registration Act Coordinator
- Attendance at trainings and meetings locally or at the WIC Learning Center, as assigned.
- Other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS: - High School Diploma or GED AND 1 year of program experience.
- AA/AS in Administration or related field preferred
- Intermediate use of standard Microsoft Office & Internet required.
- Bilingual (Spanish/English); strongly preferred.
- Experience with providing customer service and computer data entry, including volunteer experience.
