Infrastructure Engineer Intern

About the role:
The Infrastructure Engineer Intern will be part of the infrastructure engineering & operations team that designs, engineers, implements, and maintains The New York Times Global Terrestrial and Cloud Infrastructure. You will bring expertise to improve the NYT IT infrastructure design, to engineer new solutions that address evolving needs and provide a secure and available computing platform. Also, you will configure and maintain existing infrastructure components, implement upgrades, use management tools to monitor & report on the reliability of the environment.
Responsibilities:
Independently research and provide both business and technical solutions based on and related to customer needs and specifications and deploy them into our production infrastructure.
Monitor, test and analyze the existing infrastructure environment and optimize it based on resiliency, technological advancements and cost
Design and implement automation platforms
Evaluate new technologies and create alpha/beta releases, and determine viability and suitability of existing technologies
Produce documentation of use cases, business and technical solutions, and overall technology concepts—and write reference architecture papers to explain how products can be used to solve specific challenges
Present to and solicit feedback from application, development and operations teams
Collaborate with stakeholders about adopting new technology, solution improvements, and updates to existing technology
Be part of an on-call rotation to monitor, analyze and resolve critical infrastructure issues and incidents, including on an emergency basis
Basic qualifications:
Experience coding/scripting in Python or PowerShell
Preferred Qualifications:
Professional experience in IT
Experience of Linux and Windows Operating Systems
Understanding of Active Directory topologies and how sites interconnect
Understanding of Cloud based deployments on AWS and GCP Cloud Platforms
Understanding of Identity federation, MFA, SAML and SSO
Understanding of Syslog, DNS, Monitoring Services
Understanding of Automation (Ansible, Chef, Puppet, Saltstack) and Orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes, Racher, etc)

The hourly rate of base pay for this role is:
$20 - $20 USD
