Job Description

The Manhattan HIV Brain Bank is looking for an Associate Researcher (tissue bank laboratory research coordinator).

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in science or related field preferred, or combination of relevant research experience and education
  • 0-2 years of research/laboratory experience
  • Prior experience at a laboratory bench with basic techniques (pipetting, centrifugation, making solutions), and entry-level computer skills.
  • Some knowledge of histology helpful, but not necessary.
  • Molecular skills a plus.
  • We will train individuals with regard to histology and general anatomy skills.

Responsibilities

  • Processing clinical fluid samples obtained from HIV and HCV infected patients.
  • Assisting with the rapid prosection of autopsies at Mount Sinai Hospital. Participate in call for the prosection of these cases after hours.
  • Photographing tissue specimens.
  • Dissection and cryopreservation of fluid and tissue specimens.
  • Maintaining a computer catalogue of collected tissue and fluid biospecimens and inventories.
  • Packaging and shipping samples.
  • Assist with preparation of histologic slides, performance of histochemical and immunohistochemical procedures.
  • Participate in ongoing research projects in the laboratory, using morphometric analysis and other tissue-based techniques.
  • General laboratory maintenance, ordering supplies.
  • Performs other related duties.

Compensation Statement

Mount Sinai Health System (MSHS) provides a salary range to comply with the New York City Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $17 - $34.1212 Hourly. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
