Job Role
Adams Clinical is seeking an experienced Inpatient Unit (IPU) Manager to lead operations for our new research inpatient unit in Bronx, NY (10461). The unit supports clinical trials evaluating investigational treatments for acute schizophrenia and other psychiatric conditions. The IPU Manager will oversee daily operations, coordinate participant care with site leadership and outpatient teams, and ensure high-quality, compliant study execution.
This role requires a licensed Registered Nurse (RN) with leadership and clinical experience in inpatient psychiatric or behavioral health settings. The IPU Manager will direct all unit operations, including management, training, and supervision of Mental Health Technicians (MHTs). They will collaborate closely with the Principal Investigator (PI) and study physicians, provide patient care within scope, and support clinical decision-making consistent with study protocols and standard medical practice.
Key Responsibilities
Operational & Clinical Oversight
- Lead daily inpatient research unit operations, ensuring compliance with protocols, GCP, and regulatory standards, while coordinating admissions, discharges, and all inpatient research procedures to maintain alignment with outpatient phases.
- Manage and develop unit staff—including trial liaisons, MHTs, and overnight personnel—while implementing and training teams on de‑escalation protocols, safety practices, and behavioral management guidelines to ensure a safe therapeutic environment.
- Maintain required documentation, support audit readiness, and provide clinical/procedural support such as investigational product (SC/IV) administration, phlebotomy, vital signs, ECGs, and clinical results documentation.
- Strengthen communication and workflow efficiency across inpatient and outpatient teams to optimize care delivery and study execution.
Leadership & Staff Development
- Provide strategic leadership that promotes professionalism, accountability, and a culture of safety and respect across the inpatient unit.
- Oversee performance management, coaching, onboarding, and competency development for MHTs and all inpatient personnel, fostering effective collaboration across interdisciplinary teams.
Quality & Safety
- Ensure compliance with all inpatient study requirements, regulatory obligations, and safety protocols, including controlled substance management and investigational product accountability.
- Monitor participant well‑being and proactively address safety issues, operational risks, or emergency needs.
What Success Looks Like
- Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.
- Current New York State RN license.
- Previous inpatient unit experience required; psychiatric inpatient experience strongly preferred.
- Prior staff management experience required; experience overseeing unit operations strongly preferred.
- Clinical research experience strongly preferred (training provided for the right candidate).
- Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, research-focused environment.
- Experience with phlebotomy and IV placement is a plus.
Pay : $110,000 - $140,000 per year
