  • Coordinate and communicate effectively with colleagues, outside tax counsel, accounting firms, and internal stakeholders to support appropriate tax planning, risk controls, and compliance
  • Partner with Corporate Tax colleagues and relevant business teams to review the tax aspects of new initiatives and expansions into new markets and/or strategies.
  • Monitor evolving tax law, legislation, and administrative guidance, including Treasury regulations, IRS rulings, and court decisions, and assess implications for JPMorganChase products, services, and structures, providing actionable guidance to stakeholders
  • Participate in Corporate Tax Department meetings and contribute to policies and procedures relevant to supported businesses, with attention to substantive, operational, and reputational risk considerations
  • Serve as a general resource to the Corporate Tax Department, supporting its oversight of general and transactional tax planning matters as needed
  • Draft, review, and negotiate the tax aspects of legal documents, including partnership agreements, derivatives documentation, tax opinions, and fund offering materials

Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills

  • Admission to at least one U.S. state bar
  • 5+ years of relevant tax experience at a top-tier law firm with a strong tax practice or in-house at a financial institution; exceptional candidates with financial services industry experience at a Big 4 accounting firm may be considered
  • Experience advising on investment and transactional tax issues impacting individuals, corporations, partnerships, and trusts, with strong foundations in partnership taxation (Subchapter K), investment company taxation (RICs and REITs), withholding on foreign investors (Chapters 3 and 4), UBTI analysis, and cross-border U.S. tax planning and structuring
  • Exposure to traditional and alternative investment management
  • Experience reviewing, negotiating, and drafting legal documents, including partnership agreements, derivatives documentation, tax opinions, and fund offering materials
  • Experience with U.S. and AEOI tax information reporting and withholding obligations
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with demonstrated interpersonal and relationship-building capability across legal, tax, business, and control partners
