Surgical / Operating Room Tech - STSM
Position Title: Surgical / Operating Room Tech
Location: Syracuse, NY 13215
Employment Type: Contract
Duration: 16 Weeks
Shift: Evening Shift
Schedule: Mixed 8 & 12 Hour Shifts | 40 Hours/Week
Shift Hours Include:
- 11:00 AM – 7:30 PM
- 3:00 PM – 11:30 PM
- 11:00 AM – 11:30 PM
Job Summary:
Seeking an experienced Surgical / Operating Room Tech to support complex adult surgical procedures in a fast-paced acute care trauma center environment while maintaining sterile technique, patient safety, and efficient OR workflow.
Requirements:
- Minimum 3 years recent Operating Room experience required
- Recent Level 1 or Level 2 trauma center experience required
- Scrub experience required
- Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) certification required
- Acute care hospital OR experience required
- Experience with trauma, orthopedic, general surgery, ENT, vascular, and GYN procedures required
- Strong knowledge of sterile technique and surgical instrumentation required
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision required
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills required
- English proficiency required (Read, Write, Speak)
- Surgical Technology program completion required
- BLS (AHA) preferred
- Neurosurgery, bariatric, and GU procedure experience preferred
- Teaching hospital experience preferred
- First-time travelers considered with equivalent large hospital experience
Responsibilities:
- Prepare operating rooms for surgical procedures
- Set up sterile fields, surgical instruments, and supplies
- Scrub and assist during operative procedures
- Maintain sterile technique throughout surgical cases
- Assist surgeons, nurses, and anesthesia staff during procedures
- Anticipate surgical team needs during operations
- Handle surgical instruments and equipment safely
- Ensure proper specimen handling and labeling
- Assist with patient positioning and OR room turnover
- Maintain surgical counts per hospital policy
- Support trauma and emergency surgical procedures
- Follow infection prevention and patient safety protocols
- Maintain accurate procedural documentation
Additional Details:
- Acute Care Hospital – Adult Operating Room / Trauma Center
- No First Assist duties permitted in New York State
- Pre-employment health clearance required
- Must be comfortable working in high-volume evening OR setting
