Assistant Professor - Social Work
Performs teaching, research and guidance duties in area(s) of expertise. Shares responsibility for committee and department assignments including administrative, supervisory, and other functions.
The Department of Social Work at the College of Staten Island (CSI) invites applications for a tenure track position at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin Fall 2026. We seek applicants who specialize in the area of disability studies and social work. We foreground disability from a social constructionist framework that takes into account socio-political, embodied, and intersectional dimensions of personhood, rooted in anti-ableist paradigms and social justice approaches. We take on a broad cross-disability definition, including but not limited to cognitive, developmental, intellectual, neurological, psychiatric, physical, and sensory impairments, as well as brain injury, chronic health conditions, and substance use disorders (SUD). Candidates interested in disability justice, critical social work approaches, and with expertise in psychiatric disabilities are especially encouraged to apply. The Social Work Department embodies the College's commitment to educational excellence through scholarship, service, and teaching. Responsibilities include assistance in coordination of the undergraduate and graduate direct practice/clinical sequence, curriculum development, and advisement. The College and Department are committed to a diverse work environment that reflects the multicultural makeup of our student body. The successful candidate will be committed to inclusion and excellence. The search committee is especially interested in candidates who can contribute, through their research, teaching and service, to the diversity of the academic community. Women and applicants from traditionally underrepresented populations, including people with disabilities, and LGBTQ+ candidates are strongly encouraged to apply.
