What is an Engineer – Electric Transmission Design?
Central Hudson is seeking an Engineer to join our Electric Transmission Design team. Engineers perform engineering assignments related to the planning/scoping, design, construction, operation, maintenance, and performance of the company’s electric transmission system.

What does an Engineer - Electric Transmission Design do?

»Develops project scopes, designs and engineering prints, specifies, and procures equipment, and provides on-site field support for construction activities

»Designs plans related to the complete rebuild of lines and maintenance-located spot replacements

»Uses computer-aided design and inspection/maintenance software (PLS-CADD/CASCADE) to create design plans

»Creates design plans with safety, regulatory standards, and codes (NESC, RUS, IEEE, ACSE), fellow employees, and the public in mind

»Provides technical support for electric operations

»Aids in the creation and development of constructible work packages needed to support the long-term capital plan

»Analyzes performance of the company’s electric transmission facilities and recommends any remedial measures

»Collaboratively works with departments related to design work including System Construction, Purchasing, Real Property, Environmental, etc.

»Represents Central Hudson in industry activities and organizations (NYISO, NYSRC, NPCC, IEEE, EPRI, CEATI etc.)

»Supports storm/emergency restoration efforts as needed



What does it take to be an Engineer - Electric Transmission Design?

Required:

»Bachelor’s degree in engineering

»Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and the capability to lgain new computer software programs quickly

»Well-developed written and verbal communication expertise

»Excellent problem-solving expertise with innovation in mind

»Strong analytical, organizational, and quantitative expertise

»Must perform all tasks safely and design with safety in mind

» capability to voice opinions & lead discussions amongst industry groups

»Flexibility to multitask and operate under pressure in a fast-paced work environment

»Valid driver’s license

Preferred:

»Professional Engineer license

»Field of study in civil or mechanical engineering

» expertise of and/or practice in the electric and gas utility industry

» 3+ years of work practice in a related engineering function, practice designing electric transmission systems
