The Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation is a non-profit, volunteer-fueled organization whose mission is to cure Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis and improve the quality of life for the children and adults affected by these diseases. Our work is dramatically accelerating the research process through our varied research initiatives; we also provide extensive educational and support resources for patients and their families, medical professionals, and the public. In addition, we lead federal and state-based advocacy campaigns to support medical research funding and improve patient access to care. Position Summary:
The Manager, Education & Support will serve as an inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) educator, providing disease-specific information, guidance and support to patients, families, and health care professionals. This role will provide coverage support during extended IBD Help Center hours and other times as applicable.
This is a fully remote part-time role at 29 hours per week. It does not provide healthcare benefits.
The first 3 months will be supervised training:
Monday, Friday from 10am – 2pm EST and
Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday from 10am – 5pm EST
Following the 3-month training, the regular schedule will be:
Monday, Friday from 12pm – 4pm EST and
Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday from 2pm – 9pm EST
Essential Functions & Responsibilities :
- Respond to questions that come into the IBD Help Center through phone, email, online chat, fax and mail. Provide accurate information on the diagnosis and treatment of IBD as well as address psychosocial and quality of life issues with patients, families and health care professionals. At least 90% of the time will be spent in this capacity.
- Stay current on IBD and IBD-related issues by reviewing relevant internal and external resources. Update existing IBD Help Center staff and resources with the latest information.
- Stay current on health care navigation strategies and programs/resources offered by outside organizations for patients and caregivers coping with the daily challenge of IBD and reviewing internal resources including patient webcasts. Update existing IBD Help Center staff on these resources, and refer callers to additional community resources when appropriate
- Create and maintain a library of email-templates and resources to answer inquiries.
- Assist with AI assistance utilizing IBD Help Center resources for the Foundation website.
- Provide support for brochure order management process.
- Review educational materials, including brochures, fact sheets and slides as needed.
- Other duties as required.
Qualifications:
- Master’s degree required in Social Work, Nursing, Public Health, Health Education, Counseling or similar degree and 2 years of related work experience.
- Proven ability to deal professionally, sympathetically, and confidentially with patients and families who are dealing with illness.
- Ability to remain calm under pressure and deal with occasional difficult callers
- Thorough working knowledge of medical terminology.
- Experience assisting patients and families with navigating the health care system.
- Thorough knowledge of web searching resources.
- Fluency in Microsoft Word, Access, Power point, Excel applications, and Salesforce.
- Excellent organizational, oral and written skills.
