Part-Time Grants Manager
About Us:
Gotham Park is a new public space at the base of the Brooklyn Bridge in Manhattan, operated by a nonprofit organization dedicated to stewarding this unique site for public benefit. Through thoughtful programming, partnerships, and community engagement, Gotham Park works to ensure the park remains accessible, vibrant, and sustainable.
Role:
Gotham Park is hiring a part-time Grants Manager to advance the organization’s fundraising and development efforts. The Grants Manager will maintain the organization’s grant calendar; research and evaluate institutional and government funding opportunities; prepare high-quality proposals, reports, and budgets; and manage government, foundation, and corporate grant processes.
The Grants Manager contractor will report to the Chief Operating Officer and work collaboratively with Gotham Park’s executive leadership and program and finance staff. The position offers a meaningful opportunity to support the growth of this exciting new Lower Manhattan public space and contribute to our organization’s community impact, sustainability, and long-term development.
Job Responsibilities:
Grant Research, Strategy & Calendar Management
- Maintain and manage a comprehensive grant calendar including deadlines, submission dates, renewal schedules, and reporting requirements.
- Research and identify new institutional funding opportunities (government, foundation, and corporate).
- Evaluate prospect alignment, eligibility, restrictions, and competitiveness, and make written recommendations to leadership.
- Track trends in public, private, and government funding relevant to Gotham Park’s programs, public space development, and community engagement.
Proposal Development & Writing
- Write and edit letters of inquiry, proposals, government applications, narrative sections, and supporting documents.
- Collaborate with program and finance staff to develop project budgets and budget narratives.
- Prepare supplemental materials such as organizational descriptions, program summaries, annual metrics, staff bios, and attachments required by funders.
- Ensure application content meets funder guidelines and submission standards.
Reporting & Compliance
- Draft and submit interim and final grant reports.
- Maintain accurate tracking of grant deliverables, contract obligations, and compliance requirements.
- Support the monitoring and documentation of program outcomes and metrics.
Portal & Systems Management
- Manage online grant application portals including federal, state, city, and private platforms.
- Maintain organized digital records of applications, awards, contracts, reports, and correspondence.
- Utilize systems including Asana and Salesforce to manage workflows across the team.
- Assist with development operations and organizational workflows.
Cross-Organization Collaboration
- Work closely with program, finance, operations, and executive staff.
- Participate in internal planning and strategy meetings.
- Support broader development activities as needed.
Other Job Duties
- Contribute to Gotham Park’s mission and strategic goals.
- Develop and maintain knowledge of community needs and best practices in public space development and nonprofit fundraising.
- Maintain efficient practices for grant management and compliance.
- Maintain an inclusive and respectful work environment.
Minimum Education and Experience:
- 3–5 years of professional grant writing and grant management experience.
- Required: experience with government grants at the federal, state, or municipal level. New York City and New York State experience preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree or comparable experience in fundraising, nonprofit management, public administration, communications, English, urban planning, or a related field.
- Proven track record developing successful grant applications.
- Experience developing project budgets preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Exceptional writing, editing, and analytical skills.
- Strong understanding of government and foundation grant processes.
- Strong project management skills.
- Ability to work independently and hit deadlines.
- Strong communication skills.
- Proficiency with grant portals and digital platforms.
- Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office and Google Suite required; Asana and Salesforce a plus).
- Familiarity with public space development or community programming a plus.
Physical Aspects of the Job:
- Ability to travel within the local service area.
- Ability to sit or stand for extended periods.
- Participation in meetings and community engagements as needed.
- Use of computer and phone required. Internet access required if working remotely.
Terms:
This is a part-time (20-25 hours per week) hourly 1099 position with an initial period of three (3) months, with the potential to transition to a full-time salaried position with benefits subject to the candidate’s performance and the organization’s need. This position has a starting hourly rate of $55 to $75 based on the candidate’s experience and education.
