While his experience was impressive, though overall he lacks extensive experience in developing and supporting enterprise level applications in the domain of network automation.

What this person will do is: Write Python code to extract data from tens of thousands of networking devices (routers, switches, hubs, firewalls, access points, bridges, repeaters, load balances, etc.) from all over the world. They will then use this data to analyze how to improve the Morgan Stanly networks to improve performance. Since this person is interacting constantly with networking engineers, they have to understand the concepts from a high level and be able to talk their talk,

The hiring manager has a Master's Degree in Network Engineering from New York University. He spent 3 years working as a network engineer at Sony Electronics. On his own, he learned how to code in Python. Then, he joined the investment bank for the last 7 years.

Job Description:

Morgan Stanley is seeking a Network Automation Engineer with strong Python programming skills to join their NYC team. This individual will write automation scripts to extract and analyze data from thousands of networking devices (routers, switches, firewalls, etc.) worldwide. The role involves working directly with network engineers to optimize network performance and improve system efficiency.

Job Description:

1. Design, develop and maintain automation toolset (Python & legacy tools in Perl) for device asset discovery, data collection, and reporting.
2. Enhance and optimize existing scripts to improve workflows and integrate new technologies into network change management processes.
3. Translate operational and functional requirements into effective automation solutions.
4. Perform tooling audits to ensure proper operational coverage and implement remediation changes as needed
5. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather requirements, provide feedback, and deliver robust network automation solutions.
6. Conduct regular assessments to identify opportunities for efficiency improvement and optimization.

8. Stay updated with emerging technologies and best practices in network automation and scripting.

Required Skills:

1. Proficiency in Python with the ability to design, develop, and maintain new applications, as well as enhance and support an existing automation toolset.
2. Strong understanding of networking protocols (e.g., TCP/IP) and concepts such as Access Control Lists (ACLs), VLANs, and routing.
3. Hands-on experience with Ansible Tower or Ansible Automation Platform, including the ability to create and manage automation playbooks for network configuration, changes, and validation.
4. 8 -10 years of relevant experience in network automation, scripting, and related technologies.
5. In-depth knowledge of RESTful API principles, including methods, request/response handling, authentication mechanisms
6. Experience with version control systems like Git (BitBucket/GitHub).
7. Knowledge of software lifecycle principles and practices, integrating automation into a continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipeline.
8. Knowledge of database management systems like MongoDB for storing and retrieving data.
9. Problem-solving skills to identify automation opportunities and optimize existing workflows.
10. Ability to write clear and concise documentation for users and fellow developers.

Preferred Skills:

1. Experience in frameworks like Flask or Django for building APIs.
2. Relevant certifications in Networking (CCNA/CCNP) or RedHat Ansible.
