Systems Administrator

As a System Administrator at Array, you will support and operate our on premises and hybrid infrastructure, working closely with senior systems engineers, site reliability, database, and cloud teams. This role focuses on day to day system reliability, maintenance, and incremental improvement of our data center and virtualized environments. You will help reduce operational risk by sharing ownership of critical infrastructure and ensuring systems are stable, secure, and well documented. This is a full time position reporting to the SRE Manager.
All engineering roles at Array participate in on-call rotations after a ramp and training period. This role will require availability for occasional evening or weekend maintenance windows.
Preferred location in the New York metro area or the ability to commute to the data center as needed.
You will:
- Support and maintain Windows and Linux virtual machines to ensure availability and performance.
- Assist with VMware administration, including provisioning VMs, managing templates, and monitoring resource usage.
- Help maintain and improve backup, patching, and monitoring processes across the data center.
- Participate in on-call rotations and respond to infrastructure incidents as needed.
- Perform routine maintenance and assist with scheduled change windows.
- Document system configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting steps.
- Work closely with senior engineers to learn best practices and help reduce technical debt.
- Collaborate with cloud, database, and application teams to support hybrid environments and improve operational reliability.
- Maintain a habit of using AI tools to think, build, and ship faster—it's your default, not an afterthought.
You have:
- 2+ years of direct experience administering Windows Server environments, including Active Directory, Group Policy Objects, DNS, DHCP, and IIS.
- Experience working with VMware environments such as vCenter and ESXi, including provisioning virtual machines, managing templates, and monitoring resource usage.
- Working knowledge of Linux system administration, including user and access management, patching, troubleshooting, and basic performance analysis.
- Comfort scripting and automating tasks using tools such as PowerShell, Bash, Ansible, or similar automation frameworks.
- Experience supporting backup and recovery solutions such as Veeam, including validation and restore workflows.
- Familiarity with monitoring and alerting tools such as Zabbix, Checkly, or similar platforms used in on premises environments.
- Basic to intermediate understanding of networking concepts, including routing, VLANs, firewalls, load balancing, and general troubleshooting.
- Exposure to firewall and network segmentation technologies such as NSX T or equivalent platforms.
- Comfort working with Docker and containerized workloads in support or operational contexts.
- Experience managing SSL certificates, reverse proxies, and load balancers such as Traefik.
- Working knowledge of Git for version control and collaboration.
- Ability to work with physical hardware when needed, including racking equipment, replacing drives, and basic cabling tasks.
- Strong documentation habits, with the ability to clearly capture system configurations, procedures, and changes in tools like Confluence.
- A mindset oriented toward ownership, learning, and growing into broader infrastructure responsibility over time.
- Preferred experience with data center networking, including routing and troubleshooting.
- A belief that AI is reshaping work, you instinctively use it to accelerate everything you do.
Pay transparency: $110,000 + for base salary, depending on experience.
