This role serves as a trusted advisor to HR leadership and business unit leaders; manages outside counsel on employment claims, investigations, and litigation; and helps ensure consistent, compliant, and fair employment practices across our diverse family of operating companies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage outside counsel on employment claims and litigation, including strategy, risk evaluation, and budgets.
  • Conduct and/or support workplace conduct investigations (including discrimination, harassment, and retaliation) in coordination with Compliance and HR.
  • Provide legal advice to HR and business leaders across the enterprise on employment risk, decision‑making, and sensitive employee matters.
  • Advise on compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, with a focus on consistent enterprise practices.
  • Support responses to government agency inquiries and proceedings (e.g., EEOC, state fair employment practices agencies).
  • Coordinate with local/outside employment counsel to support matters involving operations outside the U.S.
  • Partner with HR on employment‑related policies and training.
  • Identify trends or systemic risk themes across the organization and help drive mitigation approaches.

Minimum Qualifications

  • J.D. from an accredited law school and active bar membership in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
  • 7–10 years of labor and employment law experience, including time at a respected labor & employment firm, government agency (e.g., EEOC or state FEP agency), and/or in‑house role.
  • Demonstrated experience conducting workplace investigations and managing employment litigation.
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. labor and employment laws and regulations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex legal concepts into clear, practical guidance.
  • Strong client‑service orientation and comfort advising senior leaders.
  • Proven ability to exercise sound judgment, maintain discretion, and manage competing priorities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting construction and/or industrial workforces, including field‑based employee populations.
  • Experience advising in unionized environments and on union‑related matters (e.g., trade unions, prevailing wage compliance, CBAs, PLAs, and labor‑management issues).
  • Exposure to government contractor employment compliance (e.g., OFCCP obligations; familiarity with FAR and SCA concepts).
  • Experience advising decentralized or multi‑business organizations on employment compliance frameworks.
  • Familiarity with digital evidence preservation and workplace investigation tools
  • Prior government or enforcement‑side experience (e.g., fair employment practices agency) is a plus.

Location & Compensation
