Android software engineer summer

GameChanger
New York, NY
About GameChanger:

At GameChanger, we help the youth sports community Live the Game Like Never Before.

We believe youth sports change lives — on and off the field — and we're building the home of youth sports to support every coach, athlete, family member, and fan along the way. Every product decision we make is designed to elevate the next generation through sports.

We are a remote-first, dynamic technology company based in New York City solving meaningful challenges across youth sports — and this summer, we're bringing together a highly intentional cohort of interns to help build what's next.

About the Internship Program:

Our Summer 2026 Internship Program is a 10-week, fully onsite experience in NYC (June 1–August 7, 2026). This is not a shadowing program. As a GameChanger intern, you'll:

  • Work on real, high-impact projects
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams
  • Be paired with a dedicated mentor
  • Build and ship meaningful work
  • Present your results during our Final Demo Day

We've intentionally designed a smaller cohort (12 interns) to provide strong mentorship, meaningful ownership, and real exposure to how we build and ship at scale.

The Position:

As a Android Software Engineer Intern on the Stats & Insights team, you'll help build and improve the Android experiences that power how athletes, families, and coaches understand performance on GameChanger. You'll work on meaningful product features that surface stats, insights, and visualizations to millions of users. This is a hands-on engineering role where you'll collaborate closely with Android engineers, product managers, designers, and data partners to ship production-quality code. You will report directly to one of the team's experienced Android Engineers.

What You'll Work On:

You'll take ownership of clearly scoped, high-impact work. Depending on your team, this may include:

  • Taking end-to-end ownership of designing, building, testing, and shipping Android features that improve how users view and interact with stats and performance insights.
  • Building reusable UI components and architecture improvements to enhance performance, scalability, and maintainability of the Stats & Insights surfaces.
  • Integrating APIs and data models to ensure accurate, performant, and reliable presentation of game and season statistics.
  • Using analytics and experimentation results to iterate on features and improve engagement, clarity, and usability.

You'll collaborate closely with teammates and stakeholders, receive consistent feedback, and contribute work that drives measurable impact.

What We're Looking For:

  • Required Qualifications
    • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field
    • Experience building and shipping a technical project (coursework, internship, research, hackathon, or personal project)
    • Experience developing Android applications using Kotlin (preferred) and/or Java
    • Ability to independently scope and execute defined work with guidance
  • Nice to Have
    • Understanding of Android fundamentals (activities/fragments, networking, state management, multi-module architecture)
    • Experience with modern Android architecture and tooling (Jetpack Compose, MVVM, Kotlin Coroutines, StateFlow/SharedFlow)
    • Familiarity with reactive programming patterns (RxJava or Kotlin Flow)
    • Exposure to data-driven product development (analytics, experimentation, or metrics-driven iteration)
What You'll Gain:

  • 10 weeks of hands-on experience on a product used by millions.
  • $55 per hour pay for your contributions.
  • Housing in Manhattan covered by GameChanger.
  • Round-trip travel to/from NYC covered.
  • A MacBook for the duration of the internship.
  • Mentorship from experienced leaders.
  • Exposure to executive leadership.
  • The opportunity to be considered for future full-time roles.

Join Us

This summer, you won't just observe — you'll build, ship, collaborate, and present work that matters. At GameChanger, we're helping families Live the Game Like Never Before — and we can't wait to see what you'll build with us.

We are an equal opportunity employer and value diversity in our company. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, or disability status.

Our Interview Process & AI

We recognize that AI has become a common part of everyday life and professional work, and its use continues to evolve rapidly. Our perspective on AI in the hiring process will evolve as well. At this time, we ask that candidates please refrain from using AI tools during interviews and assessments, as we want to see your authentic self. We will clearly indicate if and when AI use is acceptable in the process. If you have any questions or need accommodations, we're here to help. Thanks for helping us keep the process fair and secure for everyone!
