Field Service Technician - Medium Voltage Electrical Equipment
Our client is a leading global provider of high-tech electrical solutions, specializing in medium-voltage (MV) electrical distribution systems . Based in the Rochester, NY area, they design, manufacture, and support advanced MV equipment used in critical infrastructure and industrial applications. They are seeking a highly skilled Field Service Technician to support customers across the United States.
Job Summary:
The Field Service Technician is responsible for on-site installation support, commissioning, troubleshooting, maintenance, and customer training related to medium-voltage electrical distribution equipment. This role serves as the direct technical liaison between customers and the factory, ensuring equipment operates safely, efficiently, and to specification. Candidates should expect to travel up to 60% of the time to customer sites nationwide. When not traveling, work will be performed at the Rochester, NY facility.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Coordinate and support on-site equipment assemblies and installations
- Commission primary and secondary MV cubicles, including configuration and testing of protection and control systems
- Perform FAT and SAT testing on protection and control equipment
- Configure and troubleshoot communications equipment
- Provide on-site customer training on equipment operation and maintenance
- Perform preventive maintenance and corrective repairs on medium-voltage switchgear, protection, and control systems
- Diagnose and resolve non-conformities and technical issues in the field
- Serve as the direct point of contact between customers and engineering/factory teams
- Deliver remote and on-site technical support as needed
- Document repair conclusions and communicate findings to internal teams to improve product performance
- Handle unexpected technical challenges with professionalism and urgency
- Travel up to 60% nationwide, including frequent air travel and hotel stays
Requirements:
- 3+ years of Field Service experience working with medium-voltage (MV) or high-voltage (HV) electrical equipment
- Strong electro-mechanical knowledge and hands-on troubleshooting ability
- Vocational training or technical degree in electrical, electro-mechanical, or related field preferred
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and wiring diagrams
- Experience commissioning and testing protection and control systems
- Strong communication and customer-facing skills
- Ability to work independently in the field and solve problems efficiently
- Willing and able to travel up to 60%, including frequent air travel and overnight stays
