Summary
The Stanley G. Falk School, Cambridge Campus, is seeking a dynamic and creative Digital Media Teacher to lead and grow its Media Arts program. This role offers the opportunity to inspire and empower students with emotional and learning challenges through engaging instruction in digital media arts, while fostering their intellectual, social, and emotional development. The Digital Media Teacher will leverage cutting-edge equipment—including HP Z2 Mini G9 workstations, HP ZBook Power G11 mobile workstations, and Google Chromecast TV—to deliver a modern, hands-on learning experience that meets the New York State Learning Standards and supports students’ Individualized Educational Plans (IEPs).
As the Digital Media your day will Include:
- Develop lessons that reflect New York State Learning Standards to meet students’ Individualized Educational Plan (IEP) goals and objectives
- Implementing provisions of IEP and Behavior Implementation Plan
- Assess students, both informally and formally, to provide an individualized classroom program
- Assist in screening, evaluating and recommending placement of students
- Plans and initiates activities to promote learning using specialized small group and individualized instruction
- Creates a classroom learning environment that is conducive to the student’s intellectual, social, and emotional development; considers the IEP for the student and mitigating factors, including specific systems of motivation for students
- Provide assistance to students with class assignments
- Prepare, administer, and grade tests and assignments to evaluate students' progress
- Keep accurate attendance records and other reports/records pertinent to the program
- Assist and counsel students in making realistic assessments of their abilities in establishing educational and occupational goals
- Serves as a role model for students, represent appropriate behavior, anger management, and problem-solving skills
- Assist staff with identifying and resolving psychological or disciplinary needs unique to the student
- Establishes and maintains open and positive lines of communication with students, other staff, and parents/guardians concerning academics, language, and behavior
- Reinforces learning with visuals, cues, and manipulatives to assist student learning
- Directs assigned teacher aide(s) to support instruction and maintain classroom behavior
- Creates strategies for maintaining orderly classroom behavior on an individual and group basis
- Sets firm classroom rules and assistance in following through with consequences providing students with frequent feedback and recognition
- Responds calmly and objectively in situations involving students with extreme/sustained behaviors
- Utilizes appropriate techniques of behavior management and crisis interventions as indicated in Therapeutic Crisis Intervention guidelines; implements strategies to address escalating behaviors, i.e. time-out, discussion, conflict resolution
- Assists administration with upholding and enforcing School rules, policies, and procedures
- Participates in continuous professional growth and development related to field of special education and/or specific area(s) of expertise
- Ensures safety of student, self and others by supporting and following emergency procedures, i.e. code red; fire drills
- Remain after normal school hours to complete professional duties such as assessments, parent contact and staffings, as needed
- Meets accepted standards of professional behavior, including commitment to punctuality and attendance
- Attends all mandatory in-service training and regularly attends meetings at the request of the building principal
- Adheres to no smoking and/or tobacco use policy in all School buildings, School grounds and in School vehicles
- All other duties as assigned
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
- New York Teacher certification
- Dynamic teaching presence required
- Experience teaching emotionally disturbed and/or learning disabled students preferred
- Knowledge of New York State Learning Standards, resources and classroom management
- Complete Therapeutic Crisis Intervention training and utilize skills in a School environment
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions
- Maintain discipline and control disruptive behavior
- Operate a computer to perform work, maintain records and prepare reports
- Valid driver license preferred
Physical Requirements
- Standing, walking, climbing, stooping, kneeling, occasional lifting and/or moving more than 25 pounds
- Most work is indoors except when supervising students on field trips or outdoors on School grounds
- Physical activity requiring routine walking, standing, bending, and carrying of items
- Moderate physical activity with the ability to initiate or participate in physical interventions when necessary
Shift: Monday through Friday 7:35 AM – 2:35 PM
