Professional and Technical Writing Coach
Overview
A global investment and technology development firm is seeking a Professional and Technical Writing Coach to join its New York office.
The firm is looking for a skilled writing coach to join its Learning & Development (L&D) team, which helps the firm’s talent excel through customized learning offerings. The writing center within L&D offers classes, individualized coaching and consulting, and other resources to staff across the firm to strengthen their writing skills. Writing coaches gain deep insight into the firm’s businesses and operations while working in a collegial and dynamic environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Work one-on-one with colleagues in many different roles and at all levels of seniority to help them improve their professional, financial, and technical writing skills.
- Consult with teams to advise on complex write-ups and proposals.
- Help colleagues learn how to create and refine work that meets the firm’s high standards within a rigorous, writing-heavy culture.
Skills, Knowledge & Experience
- A bachelor’s degree and at least five years of writing coaching or teaching experience, preferably at the graduate level or in corporate environments.
- Ability to assess and provide actionable guidance on complex professional, financial, and technical writing, including on materials outside of one’s subject matter expertise.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, along with sound judgment, analytical thinking, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to handle confidential information with the utmost discretion.
- Familiarity with AI writing tools, and experience helping writers navigate AI in their own practice, is highly preferred.
- Knowledge of writing center theory and practice, plus rhetoric and composition theory and pedagogy, is preferred.
- Experience coaching STEM professionals or graduate students is a plus.
Additional Information & Company Benefits
The expected annual base salary for this position is $140,000 to $190,000. The compensation and benefits package includes variable compensation in the form of a year-end bonus, guaranteed in the first year of hire, and benefits including medical and prescription drug coverage, 401(k) contribution matching, wellness reimbursement, family building benefits, and a charitable gift match program.
