Counsel, Payments and Regulatory
About Rippling
Rippling gives businesses one place to run HR, IT, and Finance. It brings together all of the workforce systems that are normally scattered across a company, like payroll, expenses, benefits, and computers. For the first time ever, you can manage and automate every part of the employee lifecycle in a single system.
Take onboarding, for example. With Rippling, you can hire a new employee anywhere in the world and set up their payroll, corporate card, computer, benefits, and even third-party apps like Slack and Microsoft 365—all within 90 seconds.
Based in San Francisco, CA, Rippling has raised $1.4B+ from the world’s top investors—including Kleiner Perkins, Founders Fund, Sequoia, Greenoaks, and Bedrock—and was named one of America's best startup employers by Forbes.
We prioritize candidate safety. Please be aware that all official communication will only be sent from @Rippling.com addresses.
About the role
We are looking for a sharp, forward thinking Counsel, Payments and Regulatory to expand our portfolio of financial products. This is an exciting opportunity to build the legal and payments infrastructure to support our cutting-edge financial product stack. You will work closely with our business and product teams to develop and execute on a wide range of payments-related initiatives, creating a first-in-kind platform that spans numerous industries. You will also help drive the compliance culture at Rippling across our product and operations. The ideal candidate loves working in a fast-paced environment, enjoys the regulatory challenge of innovative payments and banking systems, takes ownership over initiatives, has excellent analytical and communication skills, and fundamentally believes that lawyering need not be boring.
What you will do
- Advise on legal and regulatory issues for new payments products and features, from early development through launch, providing practical, business-focused guidance within complex and evolving regulatory frameworks
- Partner cross-functionally with Product, Engineering, Compliance, Risk, and Marketing to help bring new products and features to market while ensuring legal and regulatory compliance
- Draft and review consumer-facing agreements, including product terms and consents, and review marketing materials
- Set priorities across multiple initiatives and drive timely execution in a sometimes rapidly changing business environment
- Contribute to the development and improvement of internal legal and compliance processes to support company growth and scaling
What you will have
- 5+ years of legal experience in litigation, regulatory counseling, or in-house in a regulated space (payments experience is a plus but not required)
- Strong interest in payments and regulatory counseling and experience advising on legal issues in regulated industries
- Ability to work cross-functionally in a fast-paced, product-driven environment, providing actionable guidance to non-legal stakeholders
- Enabling teams to move quickly while maintaining appropriate risk controls
- Entrepreneurial mindset (flexible, self-starting and hard-working)
- JD, LLB, LLM, or equivalent degree or otherwise authorized to practice law
- A sense of humor - it’s serious work, but we’re lighthearted people
