 Description

Pro Action’s Head Start Program is accepting applications for Teaching Assistant position at our Penn Yan Head Start location. Teaching Assistants work full time (37.5 hours per week), 10 months per year (school year calendar. The Teaching Assistant partners with the Certified Teacher and other classroom staff in the planning and implementation of daily activities in the preschool classroom, while adhering to Head Start Performance standards, New York State Office of Children and Family Services Day Care Regulations and all other applicable program regulations. Will be responsible for recording observations of children’s development and supporting child health screenings.

Ideal skills

Strong organizational and basic math skills.

Communication and language skills to comprehend documents and other correspondence.

Strong computer skills with basic knowledge of Excel Microsoft office and other office equipment such as copier, scanner, fax etc.

Ability to interact with customers from a variety of backgrounds and with different level of management.

Capability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions in written and oral form.

Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Job Requirement

Working in a team environment, the Teaching Assistant will participate in weekly planning sessions, attend training and meetings as required, ensure a safe and healthy classroom environment, work to establish positive relationships with families, assist in classroom, and program modifications and help with inventory as needed.

The Teaching Assistant position requires an associate degree or child Development Associate (CDA) or current enrollment in a program leading to a CDA or associate’s degree and experience in a preschool program setting. 

The ideal candidate must have a driver’s license, meeting agency standards and consistent, reliable transportation that will allow regular travel in and around the service area. Agency Driver Record History standards information can be obtained by calling Human Resources at 607-776-2125.
