Summer Rising - Visual Arts Teaching Artists (Purelements | SONYC)
Role and Responsibilities:
The SONYC|Purelements Summer Rising Programs are seeking talented, highly motivated, and engaging teaching artists to join our team. As a Visual Arts Teaching Artist, you will work closely with an on-site arts and supervisory team to create and deliver structured learning experiences that contribute to a vibrant and enriching summer camp community. Your role will involve using your professional arts skills to instruct our summer students and create an exciting final project to share and display at the end of the summer.
Key Responsibilities:
- Program Delivery: Develop and implement project-based curricula, lesson plans, and activities in your area of expertise, including Dance, Music, Theatre, Visual Arts, Cosmetology, Sports, Leadership, and Home Economics.
- Student Engagement: Foster a positive and inclusive environment that encourages student participation and growth. Utilize your artistic and professional skills to enhance students' learning experiences.
- Collaboration: Work closely with school partners, parents, and administrators to align activities with school objectives and ensure program success.
- Curriculum Development: Design and deliver engaging lessons and projects tailored to student needs and interests, ensuring high-quality instruction in your specialized area.
- Compliance: Adhere to program standards and safety regulations. Participate in professional development workshops and group project planning sessions as required.
- Flexibility: Be willing to work in different schools, with a focus on East Brooklyn, and adapt to varying program needs and schedules.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 2-3 years of experience teaching students in urban city schools
- At least three years of professional experience in your field of expertise
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- High school diploma or equivalent, at least 2 years of college experience (Preferred)
- Commitment to work with students from September through June (adjust dates as needed)
- Ability to participate in group project planning and professional development opportunities
- Compliance with fingerprinting and security clearance requirements by the NYC Department of Health.
- Continuation working within the afterschool program during the 2026-27 school year
