Registered nurse - surgical

Position Title: Registered Nurse - Surgical Step Down - Day
Location: Syracuse, NY
Job Type: Contract | Local or Travel
Shift: Day (3×12)
Hourly Pay: $62 - $65
Weekly Pay: $2,200 - $2,400

Position Summary

The Surgical Step Down RN provides specialized care for patients recovering from cardiac and trauma surgeries. Nurses in this unit are responsible for close monitoring, rapid assessments, and delivering skilled interventions to support patients transitioning from critical care.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver safe, evidence-based nursing care to surgical step-down patients with complex needs

• Perform thorough assessments and monitor patient conditions in a critical care environment

• Administer medications and treatments per provider orders and hospital protocols

• Accurately document care and progress in Epic EMR

• Collaborate with physicians, advanced practitioners, and the interdisciplinary team to ensure optimal outcomes

• Provide education and support to patients and families throughout recovery

• Maintain compliance with safety standards, infection control, and hospital regulations

• Flexibly manage high-acuity cases with minimal orientation and supervision

Qualifications

• Current New York State RN license/registration

• BLS certification (must maintain active certification)

• Minimum 1.5 years of recent experience (within the past 2 years) in an acute care facility of similar size/trauma level

• EPIC EMR experience strongly preferred

• Prior Level 1 or Level 2 trauma hospital experience highly desired

• Must not have had a nursing license or certification suspended/investigated
